ALSO during the window to download... you have to reset your box either go press the red button or do it through the remote... when the first blue screen pops up press 02468 (not too fast though) and it will take a few seconds to respond and you will see that an update is being downloaded... if you dont, try again the same way.

Yep, you have to wait for the first blue "welcome" screen to show then enter 02468 on the remote. The receiver should then display "almost there" and then go to the software download screen.

If it does not go to the download screen reset and try again.

This will force most DIRECTV-branded receivers to re-download the most current software version currently broadcasting from the satellites.

It will not work on the DIRECTV R10 and HR10-250 because they get their software updates from Tivo through the phone line.

As for older receivers (Phillips, Hughes, Samsung, Etc.) there is no way you can force a software reload.

If the download hangs at 0% check the signal strength from the 101 on transponders 21, 25, & 30. If they are below 50% the download will fail. Sometimes swapping the satellite lines on DVR's helps.
