New install problems for Thai TV on G19

Got my wife an FTA setup from the WSI group (Galaxy-Marketing). I was able to get locked onto Galaxy 19 but cannot seem to get the two transponders we want.

11965 H (listed as 11966 H on Lyngsat) for Thai TV Global Network
and
12090 H for Nat TV and Hit and Health Network

Originally, I set the skew of the LNBF to what dishpointer.com said and only got vertical transponders. However, I rotated it a bit more and I can get several of the vertical and horizontal polarized transponders on that satellite. But probably only about half of them. My quality is about 33-70% on the freqs I receive. On the ons I don't, signal strength is just noise levels. If I do any further rotation, the good signals go down dramatically.

Since all I care about are horizontal polarized transponders, should I rotate another 90 degrees?

Could it be I'm pointed sub-optimally?

Probably should never blame the satellite, but could these transponders be down for maintenance or something?

Oh, and by the way, not getting any appreciation for the struggle just derision from the lack of results.

Setup: Winegard 76cm, OmegaSat DSB-5700 FTA rcvr, WSI DMX521.
 
There does seem to be a wide variation in transponder strengths on G19. For the weaker ones, a 76cm may be barely adequate if you're in the wrong part of the country. I'd suspect that you're pointed sub-optimally. I hope you have a TV you can take out to your dish so you can watch the receiver's signal strength meter as you gently push on the dish in various directions to see if the signal improves. Don't loosen the bolts at first, just bend it every so slightly to see which direction you need to go.

As to the skew issue, check to make sure that the LNB holder is attached in the proper position on the arm, and that it and the arm are straight.
 
As Jim said there is quite a difference in TP strength on G19.

11965/6 doesn't come in for me, but 12090 is strong. I did get 966 one day when playing at the dish and holding my hand beside the lnb.
 
On my mancave setup (Coolsat 6000/90 cm Fortec) the 12090 (12088 on mine) TP is a lot stronger (75-76% Q) than the 11965 (11964 on mine) TP, which comes in @ 67-68%.
 
12090 comes in at over 70% but 11965 barely at 40. You might have to tweak your setup specifically for these 2 tps if it's all you really care for.
 
G19 is experiencing interference from another satellite on some frequencies - you need a larger dish (.9-1.2 meter) to get the frequencies you want with minimal interference. I have installed several systems for Thai folks - very critical that the skew, focal point, azimuth, and elevation be peaked for the Channels you want. Best to have a receiver and TV (tuned to the frequency you want) right at the dish as you do the settings. To start with, set your LNB skew 16 degrees to the left (counter clockwise) as you look at the front of dish. Then when you have it set up and receiving signal on the channel you want and adjust the skew and focal points just a bit for the highest quality.

I'll have to look into why the vendor did not sell and ship to me the package listed as recommended for Thai channels on their own website.

Would an in line amp help out instead of replacing the dish? I just learned there is a no return policy on dishes.
No, an inline amp helps if you have weak signal Strength from a long cable run, but it will only make things worse if you don't have signal Quality to begin with.
 
You stated you got a quality of 33-70 percent. Which transponder do you get 33%? I will compare it what I receive on my primestar 84 and that should give you an idea about how much you are off. Like one poster stated, it maybe interference from an adjacent satellite but let's do this comparision before you have to go through the trouble of getting another dish, etc.
 
Hi, I just checked the two TPs 11966 and 12090 and found the 12090 is quite a bit stronger for me near central Florida then the 11966 TP.

Maybe try peaking on the 12090 TP by leaving the LNB clamp loose and try moving the LNB in and out as well as skew it left and right a little while you have the small TV out at the dish.

You may well need to get a bigger dish for the 11966 TP - I'm only about 15 points over breakup on that TP with my WS9036.

I get on 11965 H for Thai TV Global Network quality 66 which is almost at threshold
and 91 on 12090 H for Nat TV and Hit and Health Network.

This with a Coolsat 6000 and 30" dish in Ontario Canada.
 
Moved the dish in alt and az about 0.25" max before things fell apart. They never got any better. I did no better with rotating the LNBF. Looks like I'm close to the sweet spot, but just can't get to it.

Other than rotating the LNBF, have you tried sliding it forward and backward?
 
The readings you posted seem to indicate your skew is way off. Standing behind the dish the lnb should be rotated clockwise (I noticed you are in TN and g19 is west of you). I know I have goofed up a few times over the years and rotated the lnb the wrong way and I would get both h and v readings on the same transponder which is what you have. Trying rotating the lnb clockwise if standing behind the dish or counter clockwise if standing in front looking at the dish. Hope this helps.
btw tp 11867 v gives me a reading of 40quality and I get 54 quality on 11966h.

I called in professional help because I was at my wits end. He was puzzled by what I was showing him because the signal strength meter he brought showed I should be good to go.

Then he says to his buddy, "go grab the spare LNB from the truck."

I read on this site that newbies might blame the LNB and 99% of the time it is not. Well, I'm in the 1%. His spare worked fine, strong even. Now everyone is happy and I'll have to see if I can get a refund for the bad LNBF.
 
Glad you found the problem, yes LNBs can go bad. It is unusual for a new one out of the box to be bad - but I have had it happen.
