I am new to DirecTV, having gotten it installed on Saturday. My current setup has just one receiver, the H20.

I'm interested in adding a second H20 reciever, if that's possible. I was considering purchasing one from ebay. Is it possible to add a used receiver to my installation, or do I need a brand new one? What do I need to do to physically install a second receiver? Do I need to contact DirecTV once I do?

Thanks in advance.

YOu can add as many receiver as you please. (new or used).. You just have to make sure that your dish is capable of many lines (if not, you need a multiswitch) and if the new receiver doesnt have a access card, im sure directv will send you a new one., once connected you do have to contact directv so that they send the signal to that additional receiver for an extra charge for for receiver.

AS a new cusatomer you have 3 days to change your account. Sat/Sunday/Monday, call today and you should be able to get the receiver installed free except for the $99 upgrade fee. Call tomorrow and you may have to wait before you can upgrade your lease. I believe it is 6 mo. from starting the account before you can upgrade. Buying used equipment won't save you still pay $5/Mo. for additional receivers on your account.

Thanks for answers, guys. I had no idea about the $5/month charge for an additional reciever.

I do have a couple more questions:
If I only wanted the additional receiver to be active during football season, could I deactivate it in January and reactivate it next September?

How will I know if my dish is capable of many lines, or if I need a multiswitch? Can I tell just by looking at it?

If you have an H20 you should have an AU9 Slimline that has a 4 way multiswitch built in. Read your copy of the 24month contract you signed for the answer to your other question.
