New Software: Hopper Duo (U990), Hopper 1 (....), Hopper 2 (....), Hopper 3 (....), Wally (....)

I'm afraid to jinx myself but... It would appear that trick play is again accurate: 30 seconds forward, 10 seconds back. I have still observed a couple of times when chase play jumped ahead to Live TV, though. So that is definitely not yet fixed. I haven't seen any pixelization either (but I normally don't).

At least the forum members will know what software changes are coming up. I don't mess with updating just because it might make it worse. I let the Hopper do it on it's own.:) I'm still on U739.
I normally wait for it to just happen as well, but I thought it worth checking today before I posted the current version info. My other H2 will get 740 when it happens without me pushing it.

Thanks to this thread, I went after the updates today.
H3: U936
4KJ: U669

Then I thought I'd try updating my Wally that is currently inactivated in the RV. It went through the motions, rebooted a few times, I heard the Playmaker making impressive noises, and even saw the progress bar. I came back later, and after various reboots and rescans, the software still reports as U822 (8/15/20). I thought to myself, "Huh."

Do you serious updaters know if a Wally should be able to be updated when it's currently turned off in my account? I don't want to waste time trying this if it just downloads an update (or acts like it's doing so) but does not install it. I can still bring it up and use the OTA adapter channels, and, apparently, view DVR recordings on the EHD, while inactivated. I just have to keep acknowledging the "we've detected an external hard drive" message.

Yes, inactive receivers can still take and install new software downloads. The Hopper Duo that I checked in order to start this thread is currently deactivated. As I said, though, it did reboot in the middle of the first download, and I had to try again. So, maybe your Wally did something similar. On the other hand, Wally software roll-outs can be a little bit tricky. For some reason, my sister seems to keep getting them about a week ahead of when the new software becomes available to everyone else. Earlier this year, she got U815 on her Wally, but I never could get that version on any of mine, only U814. So the fact that you are still seeing U822 may or may not be "normal." It might be worth another try, just to be sure.

Same here, but this time I went ahead and forced it, since I had already caught it in the act of trying to download the software once. Besides, I have been wanting to start this thread ever since early August, when I first suggested the idea of a combined sticky thread for all of the receiver models' software versions. So, I figure I have waited long enough. :)

My other Hopper Duo is still unhooked and packed away in my closet. I never bothered to update its software the last time, either. I think it still has U640. :)

I updated my Hopper 3 today. I accidentally aborted the first time. Then I left the remote alone and it did a proper update.

I don't know if it will help anyone, but when the Hopper reboots the first time it comes on with the screen saver. If you leave it alone it will go ahead and download the update. However, if you press Select it will see it as your canceling, reboot again and stop.

I think??

They put out notes last night

Beginning 10/30, software updates are available for all DISH receiver models. These updates will be automatically pushed to customer’s receivers over the next several weeks, but may be manually downloaded as necessary. With these software updates come several improvements:

All Hopper family receivers will see improvements with Nest Hello Doorbell integration. Hoppers 2 and 3 will have expanded Nest integration capabilities, including the ability to view live camera feeds from the new Nest Stream app. These features will also be available on all connected Joeys.

Fixes will also be implemented for all receiver models. Customers should no longer experience pixelation primarily caused by the OTA, and Wally fixes should help prevent the tuner from getting stuck on zero and allow signal to acquire properly.

I upgraded both of my Hopper3 receivers to U936. I am very pleased that this fixed the ability to do trick play on the remote Hopper3. Prior to this software update the pause and skip back buttons would not work correctly when viewing programs recorded on the remote Hopper3.
Thank You Dish for fixing this. Those of us with 2 Hopper3 receivers are happy.

I let Wally sleep it off last night, and tried it again today. Same result. He apparently wants to stay on U822. ‍ I'll see what happens when I reactivate him.

Observations so far...

1. Confirmation of the skip back and forward buttons now appearing to work correctly (both SD and HD) except OTA which is still broken.
2. The wide/narrow audio setting has disappeared from the Joeys. Only reason I noticed was because one of our TVs "normal" volume level was 12 and now we've had to turn it up to 35.

Thank you for the confirmation, except I noticed no trouble with an OTA broadcast I watched on Friday: Star Trek Discovery off CBS. That was only a few hours after recording, so of course I had no autohop and had to skip around a lot to avoid the commercials.

With my Hopper it's more with the SD sub-channels then the main HD ones. I watched something today on a SD sub-channel and when I hit back it goes back 5 minutes and then when I hit forward it went to live TV

Very interesting. I wonder if the Hopper records the entire channel subchannels and all, rather than just stripping out the channel being recorded...

My sister was having that problem with the satellite-delivered SD local channels on Eastern Arc on her Wally, quite a few software versions ago. I think it caused her to simply stop recording programs from those channels, unfortunately. I haven't checked to see if that issue ever got fixed by the new software. Interestingly enough, both of the affected channels (WDLI and WRLM) are channels that have entered into frequency-sharing arrangements with other stations for their OTA broadcasts. This would technically make those channels OTA sub-channels, even though they are treated as main channels for all other purposes. I wonder if there is something inherent about the OTA sub-channel signal that is causing this issue. If so, Dish is simply passing that same issue along with their satellite-delivered feeds of these stations. None of the other main stations in our market (all of which are carried in HD, except the two SD feeds listed above) have had this issue. I am only checking the satellite-delivered feeds though, since my sister does not use OTA.

My 4K Joey has U669 10/30/2020, 4:11AM (I haven’t looked on my Hopper 3 yet). One thing that seems new is when I punch in the SiriusXM Spa channel (09968) on my 4K Joey, the sound doesn’t always play until I channel up and down.
