New Software Release 1/13

I updated while ago. When you click on "update the guide" in the tools section it appears nothing happened. However, if you use the remote back button to go back to TV a message is displayed on the bottom of the screen with the crawl bar showing the update taking place.

just downloaded the 941 software at 540am. afterwards i had to reprogram my remote because it wouldn't control my tv. maybe the upgrade did that. im new to dish, so perhaps thats normal. so far everything else, at least the things ive tried, is working normally.
That's not normal. However, there has been a rash of that happening lately, even before this software update. Usually, changing the batteries in the remote fixes the issue, without needing to actually reprogram it.

OK, I manually updated to 941 this morning starting at 9AM. No issues so far; my 54 remote continues to control the TV here.

When will the Joey 3's update? 3AM as usual, or sooner, or not at all?
Joey 3 should update to U584. At least, that is the available software version I see on the list on the Diagnostics screen of my Hopper Duo. I haven't actually updated my Joey 3 yet, though. I went ahead and updated my leased Hopper Duo first. My next steps will be to hook my purchased Hopper Duo back up, let it download the new software, link it to my Joey 3, and then let the Joey 3 software update.

I always wondered why we didn't already have this force guide update feature since it seemed a logical feature to have. Better late than never.
Technically, putting the receiver in standby always automatically forced the guide update. However, it was not exactly intuitive. Also, it would take awhile before the guide update would even begin. It sounds like this new feature works exactly the same way. (As far as how long you have to wait.) The difference is, you now get to see the progress of the guide download on screen while you are watching TV or doing other things, instead of needing to watch the screensaver. This is exactly what happens when you hook up a brand new receiver for the first time, and it takes its first guide download. So, now you have the option to force the receiver to do that whenever you want.

What does "Guide Update" do? Update the channel logos?
I thought the same thing when I read the description, since it says "Update your guide to the latest version." Also, the description that HipKat posted says:
1. Users no longer have to wait for a major software release to update the guide, they can simply navigate to the tools menu and select “Guide update”
So, it sounds like it is updating something that would normally require a software update, such as channel logos. As long as it actually downloads the actual guide info while it is at it, this is a good feature to have, whether or not any logos actually change.

I just tried out the new Guide Update feature. Took about 15 minutes. Here is what it looks like on live TV.

Come to think of it, this is exactly what always happened on a Wally without an external hard drive, every time I would reset the Wally. So, it is just the ability to force this same kind of guide update on DVR-enabled Wally (and all Hoppers, which of course have internal hard drives) that is new. This just makes the nine-day guide download look similar to the way the two-day guide download on Wally has always looked.

THIS is a good thing!

New software is available starting 1/13 and it has the following features and improvements:

  • Stability Improvements
  • Force Guide Update

Force Guide Update Feature Notes:
Users can now force channel guide update by on all Hopper and Wally receivers by using a button in the Tools menu
1. Users no longer have to wait for a major software release to update the guide, they can simply navigate to the tools menu and select “Guide update”
2. Once the update is initiated, it may take 2-5 minutes before guide progress becomes visible. Standby after confirming the forced guide update once.

Does this fix the issue with netflix and or Prime refusing to start at random from 4k joey? ( it just start the app then goes back to live tv ) unless the hopper 3 is rebooted? I start using it on hopper 3 instead of the Roku built into my TV do to many issue with Roku updates screwing thing up. the seem to be related to with streaming content screw setting and other things up or "changing" inputs

Looks like I'm a lucky one, 941 was automatically installed last night.

The Check Status LNB Drift bug is still there. Other than that, all else works fine.

What you mean by LNB drift bug? does this effect signal? and how would i check that bug?

Go to the settings page (3 home buttons in a row) and select the Status line and run the check status. When it finishes, bump down one and click Issues.

Thanks, HipKat! Do you have the version numbers, so we can put them in the sticky New Software thread?

HipKat

I will check and see, it kind strange how the last time I came here a Dish update was released and I came here out curioustiy today cause of the netflix prime issue and there was update released today to

I was watching a program while it's recording on my J3 which got U584 without my having to do anything. I definitely started playing the recording from the beginning. I also selected another channel. Then I turned the J3 off and went to the H3. The Resume button is back. But alas, it goes to Live. :(
BTW - I tried the Play button workaround, and it also no longer resumes; it goes to live instead. :crying Will this bug never be quashed?

BTW Mk. 2 - I found a new bug introduced by this upgrade on both my H3 and my J3. When you try to manage your recordings, you can no longer select any programs to manage! Really Dish? :eeek Really?

Works for me, I just moved 3 movies to one of my EHD's just last night.

What is your button sequence you use?
Aren't you the member who can actually see both your 6TB drive and your 2TB drive?

I tried every button sequence I could think of. But what has worked before was this. I first select a program (DVR, arrow to program, press Select). Then I push the Options button. Then I select Manage Programs, and then Select All. I cannot select just one program because there is no checkbox to select just one, and because there is only one program there to begin with.

On that screen, are the Options numbered? I think the Select All option is number 7. Did you try pressing the 7 button (or whatever number it is)? I have always found that if there are not enough items in a folder for the icons to go all the way across the row, then there is no way to use the arrow buttons to navigate to the Options. You have to press the corresponding number button instead.
