New to HR-24 With Setup Question

I just upgraded from a HR-20 to the HR-24. I have the unit authorized but must have missed something in the setup. On some non HD programs I am getting the black bars on the left and right of the picture and in some instances bars on the top and bottom. I never had this problem with the HR-20 as the unit would list both HD and non HD channels (355 CNBC & 355 CNBCHD) . The HR-24 lists only 355 CNBCHD for example.
Right now I`m watching 355 Biography on CNBC and the program has the black bars on the left and right side of the picture. I fooled with the Format options on the remote but that doesn`t fix the problem.

Showing BOTH channels SD and HD in the guide can be done in the menus.
Most people HIDE the SD if they have HD available, cleans up the guide some.

Menu/Set Up/System Set Up/Display/ Preference/ Guide HD channels.

What your seeing is SOME channels are HD, some are not, if it's in HD, it will fill the screen automatically.
If it's SD, you'll have bars on the sides, some channels are SD and are stretched to fill the screen to make you THINK it's HD.
All depends on the signal being sent from the channel.

Thanks, Jimbo....... I knew that I was missing something. I upgraded to have 3D capability and the quality in 3D is great.
I just have to get the rest of he setup figured out.
