Thanks for that list. It seems the more evidence people present, the more it looks like a FINANCIAL matter. I am certain Tribune wants more $$ for more detailed data like that provided by TiVo and the Hopper, and more $$ for all the additional sub-channel data. Tribune may have different Tiers of EPG data it provides to MVPD's at increasing rates higher up the Tier for more or robust EPG data. However, giving Dish the benefit of a true limitation, there may be a technical upgrade required at Dish, but that, too comes under a FINANCIAL decision. Dish would not want to pay for any technical upgrade regardless of how modest the cost. IMHO, it costs Dish something extra at some point to provide ALL sub-channel data, and Dish has decided they aren't going to pay any more than they are to provide OTA sub-channel guide data then they do today. That is sad because full sub-channel guide data like that provided by TiVo would enhance the Hopper even more.

They list the OTA for WBIN (Derry, NH) with the stations former call of WZMY and show the program as blacked out by Fox. Thing is, this station is not and has never been a Fox station. Then they have the .2 and .3 subchannels totally wrong. I know the station never sent them this garbage, there is no reason for them to do so.

Try talking to your station engineers about providing the correct guide data for each sub channel and see if this helps get you the correct guide data. A few months ago I had my CBS station using the wrong channel identifier. The CBS station in Beaumont was coming out in the guide as the Tyler ,Tx ABC station which was around 191 miles away. I had to call Echostar through the dishquality@echostar.com dept. I told them of the mistake and they got with the local CBS station to get them to change the id maker back to what it was supposed to be and the guide data went back to the correct one. But the guy at Echostar said that the station is responsible for providing the correct guide data for each sub channel as well as the main channel. If it is there when it is sent to DISH , then you get the correct guide data for each sub channel as well. So the first step is contacting the engineers of each tv station and talking to them about this, then get with dishquality@echostar.com and see if they will work with the station to get the info correct.

I know this worked because our local ABC station 12.1 has NBC on sub channel 12.2, Cozi tv on 12.3 and Metv on 12.4 . At one time the guide data was wrong and we were getting Mytx guide data that is available on 12.5 in place of Cozi tv. I wrote and left my number to call me on the dishquality@echostar.com email and they contacted me and got it straight. Looks like the ABC station sent the wrong guide data and had moved the sub channels around. They moved all the stations to the same antenna and we got the correct guide data for all 4 stations again. Now Mytx and Telemundo Fox are on 12.5 and 12.6 ,but they are broadcast are low powered stations and are broadcast on a different antenna than the main 4 channels 12.1- 12.4 . So DISH doesn't provide guide data at all for these channels ,because they don't have to do low powered stations, either carry them on the sat or do guide data.

The point is you have to work with both the station engineer and the dishquality@echostar.com folks to try to coordinate a change. It doesn't always work ,but I have worked with them over the last 10 or 12 years to fix ota guide data , station picture /audio quality , and they have always responded to me. I don't always get the answers I want, but they do answer.

Can't you get program guide data in your local publications, like a newspaper? I live in a very small town and the guide published in our weekly newspaper is very comprehensive.

I pick up all Austin stations, 55-60 miles away over a very hilly landscape, and a guide is published in Austin's daily newspaper.

There are listings on line for all providers. Here's your locals - http://tvlistings.aol.com/listings/oh/lima/over-the-air/45805

Just for comparison, I'll offer that my Lima, OH OTA channel guide shows call letters, but not network affiliation, instead, it shows an antenna icon. I HAVE learned that if I'm creating a timer, if it's available on sat, I need to use that channel, since I can only record one OTA channel at a time, and before I kept that in mind, I was getting many conflicts. dish has def spoiled me being able to record so many shows at once.
Have you considered "moving"

Besides flipping from Lima to Dayton, back to Lima, and so on for locals, do you care which you get or are you happy with either ? Actually, everything I understand about Lima's TV station's "news" is that it really sucks bad nowadays. Things like they literally don't work on the weekend and just this weekend, they re-ran the 6pm news at 11pm !

If your antenna is big enough, can you pick up Dayton's locals ? Hmmm, I just checked from the center of Wapak and it's 63 miles.... You would need a nice-sized antenna and mounted up at a good height to pull that off, I suspect. It is pretty flat between the two locations, if that helps !

Others have pretty much answered the question. You can send the question to dishquality@echostar.com
Chances are, if you get a response, it will be something along the lines of "them's the breaks"
Satelliteguys should add (even temporarily) a sub-forum for these OTA-related questions. There sure have been a lot of them recently. Maybe it would get Dish's attention enough for them to reconsider.

How about this, Dish: Set up a crowd-sourced system that allows users to input the data that's required. Be very strict about the input too and require multiple people to input/confirm different sets of data as a sort of validation. Then, allow an employee to review it and input it into your system.

Great idea!

My case: my OTA PBS station NET on both 12.1 and 26.1 (KUON Lincoln and KYNE Omaha) is missing guide data. All the subchannel .2 and .3 data is there and correct. My dish is pointed at the EA.

All other OTA guide data is correct for the Omaha, Lincoln and SE Iowa PBS broadcast I receive.

that is weird as the chart shows OTA for both

One thing interesting is those are only mapped from the HD channel whereas the others are both the SD & HD

Yup, strange. They used to be correct, but about 2-3 years ago they went wrong. Now the guide info on x.1 says NET in 9 hr program blocks.

That's interesting, the OTA data I receive for WBIN OTA is for WRAL out of Raleigh, NC. Also a Fox channel, but a different one. Maybe they changed something?

I wrote dishquality@echostar.com about the wrong data for WBIN OTA about a month ago, and got the "we can't add data due to bandwidth considerations" response. I replied that what I was asking for wouldn't increase bandwidth usage, since the data for the WBIN satellite channel is already there, and I was just asking them to correct the wrong data they were sending. Their response was basically that there was nothing they would do about it.

Lima, ohio big 4 HD channels are on 77W. Where as Lima's SD channels are on 129W. Wonder if guide info is tied to where the HD channels are? Be interesting to know.

no. I posted a list previously (and in another thread) and the only guide info is for PBS & the religious station
27-01 WBGU TSID 0x08B9, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6585)
27-02 WBGU2 TSID 0x08B9, Subchannel 02 (DISH Channel 15138)

44-01 WTLW TSID 0x08ED, Subchannel 01 (DISH Channel 6584)

If DIsh carries the OTA guide info it shows regardless of arc. Here is a post with examples

The Austin market is strange in its own right. When I hooked the OTA dongle up to my Hopper, I at first, got NO OTA subchannel listings. 24 hours later, the PBS stations populated, as did those for Univision 62.2.

But I only received OTA for 62.2, but not 62.3 and 62.4, "GetTV" and "Escape", respectively. The Fox station carries "Movies!", but I've never seen any guide info for it at all, or even a name, just "digital service". All program info is provided over OTA PSIP. Is anyone getting GetTV or Movies! program info from Dish?

I hooked up an OTA and got Getv and Movies but I don't remember if guide showed up. I already d/c the OTA USB (mostly just got in case of emergency)...but I'll connect it again and see if my guide populates.

:bowThanks for the local (suburb of Chicago) guide directory, haven't updated the locals for some time.
