newbie trying to set up reception

i have directv with 18" round dish and am trying to set up reception while in my rv.

is there a trick to this?

Get the direction and elevation from the receiver.

Make sure pole/mount is level.

use a compass to aim to the degree number the receiver says (180 is straight south).

Set elevation.

Hopefully have some signal at that point and then fine tune it before screwing it down.

there are literally dozens of postings about this. Try searching. As Jason said, it's a piece of cake if your mounting pole is perfectly plumb, you have the correct elevation and a clear LOS.
