I know the NFL season is about a week away and there is one more preseason game on Friday (Salsa's Raiders vs, the Seahawks), but since the next few days is going to have a rush of college football, I wanted to start the first of the NFL Weekly Picks thread in advance.

Coming off of last year, BillD is the team (or in this case, the guy) to beat: his 167-89 record edged out Wozniak by a game (they were tied going into the Rams/Seahawks season-ender), and his playoff pick of the Packers as his team to watch paid off in the end.

Here are the games:

Thursday, Sep. 8
Saints/Packers

Sunday, Sep. 11
Ravens at Steelers
Falcons at Bears
Colts at Texans
Eagles at Rams
Bengals at Browns
Bills at Chiefs
Lions at Buccaneers
Titans at Jaguars
Giants at Redskins
Panthers at Cardinals
Seahawks at 49ers
Vikings at Chargers
Cowboys at Jets

Sunday, Sep. 11
Ravens at Steelers- too early for these teams to be playing each other
Falcons at Bears- looking for big things from Atlanta this season
Colts at Texans- tough spot for the Colts in the early season
Eagles at Rams- I think Salsa may be on to something, but I'm still going with the loaded Eagles
Bengals at Browns- look for Peyton Hillis to run wild
Bills at Chiefs- KC too tough at Arrowhead
Lions at Buccaneers- this is now a very good matchup
Titans at Jaguars- nap time
Giants at Redskins- same old Skins
Panthers at Cardinals- nap time part 2
Seahawks at 49ers- nap time part 3
Vikings at Chargers- Phillip Rivers may have an MVP season
Cowboys at Jets- great way to open up SNF

Monday, Sep. 12
Patriots at Dolphins- Why do the Pats visit South Florida in early Sept, and the Fins visit Foxboro on Xmas Eve?

Packers over Saints- No Super Bowl champ has lost a primetime home opener since the Elway-less Broncos of '99.

Ravens over Steelers- Beware the Super Bowl loser's jinx.

Falcons over Bears- This'll be nip-and-tuck.

Texans over Colts- I had Houston winning regardless of whether Peyton's ready.

Eagles over Rams- St. Louis has a BRUTAL schedule this year.

Browns over Bengals- Not much to say- I simply think Cleveland wins.

Chiefs over Bills- I think Buffalo will be better, but starting on the road at Arrowhead is not an easy start.

Lions over Buccaneers- I am drinking the Detroit Kool Aid.

Titans over Jaguars- Don't have a good feel on the Jags.

Vikings over Chargers- Upset special.

Redskins over Giants- Gut feeling

Cardinals over Panthers- Kolb will be cooking.

Seahawks over 49ers- Because I have to pick a winner.

Jets over Cowboys- Good Sunday night opener where I see the J-E-T-S squeaking one out.

Patriots over Dolphins- ESPN could have done a better job finding a road MNF opponent for the Pats- remember what happened when they met on MNF a year ago?

Raiders over Broncos- It will not be as one-sided as their last game in Denver, but it'll have the same outcome, as Salsa finally gets to celebrate a Monday Night Raider win.

Too many people are picking the notoriously slow starting Chargers. With Ron Rivera gone as defensive coordinator, I expect the defense to be spotty at best. Last year's defense was the best in the league, but special teams play put them into a hole they couldn't climb out of. I see no reason to be so optimistic this early in the season.
