Nine new HD PPV Channels?

Well, I tried Netflix, being in Central MO, our Dist point was KC, so 3 days to get it here. So, we ordered some movies, 2 out of 5 were scratched and not playable or skipped during the best scenes. Ok, we could get replacements, in another 6 days, 3 to get them back and 3 to get the replacements here. We dropped netflix and will never go back to them. The Bblockbuster thing might have been better. But, I will not invest in an HD player until they ge their war settled and the price drops. As long as PPV doesn't cause problems with other HD expansion, it just gives me more choices. I like being able to to choose a few movies, download them for when we have a free night or have a small collection ready to go if we have guests over. We did that this year off the regular HD movie channels so we had some movies to watch by the pool and it worked out great.

It's just another option for entertainment, you don't have to get one, but it's there if you do. Kinda like cell phones, have 5 for our family, but instant messaging and Internet, etc is all blocked because to me, thats not worth the cost.

So what is the total number of HD channels now..... This should be boosting them ever closer to that magic 50 number..... Not close to the rumored 100 level that D* is promising, but they are getting there while D* is still pushing vapor-programming....

Don - that is where we differ. I don't have a Blockbuster or Netflix subscritpion because
1) I really only want to watch movies in HD and don't yet have either of the HD players
2) I really don't have time to watch many per month - 1 or 2 at the most.

This also applies to me.

For example, due to various other priorities at the time, we missed the new Die Hard movie, which looked pretty good by all accounts.

Since I also don't yet have an HD player, I will probably get the HD-PPV when it is available - even at $4.99, it is a small fraction of what it would have cost to have taken the family to see it in the theater.

PS If the idiots in the DVD business had two or three more brain cells between them, the HD-DVD vs Blu-ray stupidity would never have happened and we wouldn't be having this discussion...

Netflix doesn't work at all for me. From night to night, I never know what I want to watch. The average delay for me to watch a DVD that I purchase is 3 months, with some still sitting in the shrinkwrap at 6 to 8 months old. I've also taken 3-4 months to watch a recorded PPV program.

I bought the entire Star Trek DS9 series two years ago and I haven't finished watching it yet.

So I could easily see myself subbing to Netflix and then not watching a single DVD from them over a month or two.

So the HD PPV option should appeal to me. Perhaps now that they have lowered the price to $4.99, I'll buy a few.

Anyone know if the PQ is any better on the HD PPV channels? I'd hate to pay $5 a movie if the PQ is the same as what we are getting from Starz or Cinemax.

I am now a bit more interested in the new HD PPV channels. At first I didn't think I could archive a PPV title to the USB HDD, but today when I went in to archive some programs, I successfully archived Casino Royale.

Knowing that anything I PPV for $4.99 I can keep - and not take up valuable HDD space on the receiver -- makes more PPV channels well worth it.

still, I want more premium channels and HD nationals....

WOW! Have you ever got me mixed up with someone else!

I prefer E* and watching HD rather than promises of HD. Better equipment & PQ, too. Nope, after watching my ex-neighbor's D* setup, I'm very happy with E*. But I must admit, I originally picked them because they had a $9.99/month promo for the first year. And my wife insisted we dump the lousy cable we had (long story).
