TG Daily (c) - Nvidia targets mobile market with Windows 7 optimized GPUs

San Francisco (CA) - Nvidia has introduced five GPUs for the mobile market. The processors are based on a new 40-nanometer manufacturing process and include 512MB to 1GB of on-board memory. In addition, the Windows 7 optimized chips reportedly offer "up to twice the performance" and longer battery life with "half the power."

According to Nvidia, the new GPUs "run up to 20X faster than the CPU" with certain applications. The company also assured gamers that the G210M, GT 230M, GT 240M, GTS 250M and the GTS 260M were equipped with the "latest technologies" - including PhysX - for "ultra-realistic environments and virtual worlds."

The GeForce 200M GPU series is also optimized for Microsoft's drag-n-drop transcoding and DirectX Compute API - allowing Windows 7 users to quickly edit and transfer HD videos.

I do believe "optimized for Windows 7" just means "supports DirectX 11", which I believe is going to be released on Vista as well.

If this is true they ought to market it as a great Vista card as well.
