What is the deal with the JETS coaches with foot fetishes and now Mark Sanchez combing the high schools?

The Somewhat Romantic Story Of Mark Sanchez And A 17-Year-Old Girl

A.J. Daulerio — The Somewhat Romantic Story Of Mark Sanchez And A 17-Year-Old GirlThis is a story about a famous quarterback's courtship of a 17-year-old girl and the girl's conflicting emotions about fame. No one committed any crimes, as far as we know. It's perfectly legal for the New York Jets' Mark Sanchez to date a 17-year-old girl. He can do it in Manhattan. He can do it at his home on a North Jersey golf course. She's legal. This story has stormy nights and 2 a.m. text messages and cute photographs and mean professional gossips and very angry lawyers, which is to say it's a story about love.

The girl — the "E.K." of attorney Richard Kendall's letter to us — first reached out to writer Barry Petchesky three weeks ago. Her email:

A threatening email was sent to me from someone by the name [name redacted] who claims to be doing research for you, it regards Mark Sanchez picking up a girl in a club around new years. The tip was originally sent from a [name redacted]. If you could explain what is going on here I would greatly appreciate it because so far I am being threatened w media exposure regarding false accusations and slander.

For the record, we weren't working on any story and do not know who [name redacted] is.

E.K, fearful of the potential backlash and tabloid infamy that might ensue, decided it would be best to tell her version of the story so there would be no misunderstandings. We spoke on the phone soon after, and here's what she told me: This New Year's Eve, E.K. and some of her friends were at the Manhattan nightclub Lavo, doing whatever underage girls do at Manhattan nightclubs on New Year's Eve. As noted in this New York Post item, Sanchez made a cameo there, along with tight end Dustin Keller. He was there long enough to chat up our young protagonist. E.K. told me that Sanchez sidled up to her, and the two talked for a while. She gave him her BlackBerry number and flirted a bit. "You know I'm 17, right?" she remembers saying. Sanchez kept his cool. "Well, we can still talk, but I can't see you until you're 18," he said. "Actually," E.K. replied, "17 is legal in New York." Poise all around.

Bad pub my friend. A grown man, 24 or 25 year old having intimate relations with a 17 year old girl still in high school....? Would YOU allow your 17 year old daughter do the same?

What was an underaged girl doing at a Manhattan nightclub? What were said parents doing about that? Problem solved as she wouldn't have been there and I would bet good money her age NEVER came up.

In general 24 is too old for 17. In actuality, each relationship is different and she could be a very mature 17 year old. The difference in age is not that great. If he was 30+ years of age, then that would be a very big deal.

My grandma was 16 and my grandpa was 22 when they got married. Of course times were different, but the age difference was pretty much the same as with Sanchez and his girlfriend. They had 60+ years of marriage under a non stop honeymoon.

It is often difficult to determine who one falls in love with. As long as both are old enough to make a mature decision, the age difference is not that great, no laws are being broken, and both are mature enough to understand their limits and take responsibility, then I do not have a problem with them dating (as long as they are not in a serious relationship). Would this be a headline if she was a few months older and currently 18? Is there really much difference between the maturity of someone a few months older than a 17 year old?

Personally, I think they are both too young to be involved in a serious relationship, and both have a lot of growing to do.

We are talking about her. We are talking about Sanchez. As Charper stated, what is she doing in a night club? But as far as Sanchez, do you, as a sponsor, wanna have a guy that is, like I said, "combing high school girls" selling your product?

But I am looking at it in a sports perspective... do you want a guy that is having intimate relationship with a teenage girl hocking your product? Most advertisers are gonna be very leery of this...unless of course, they do a MAJOR spin on Sanchez's behalf.

The other part of your post, I agree with...but I want to try to have this NOT become some social/political type discussion.

No. It is definitely bad publicity. It is definitely a bad image. It is definitely shunned by most in society, and I understand why it would be. It is definitely not the best type of relationship he can choose to engage in. With this, a sponsor would be and should be reluctant to endorse him. Just as with Tiger Woods, bad relationships hurt sponsorship

I knew you and I can agree on one thing or two...LOL!

The last sentance had me. '17 is legal in New York'. Yes, I already knew that, and in most states 'legal' age is under 18, and as young as 14, although 16/17 appears to be the average. Just don't get caught with pics or it's kiddy porn.

18 & 19 year old's are still "teenagers." I don't know if the rules have changed in the military, but 17 year old's could sign up & join the military, with their parents' permission. As far as sports go,that's a decision for his sponsors if they want to keep him advertising their products. Is this type thread also on Sonicbabble? Because it does make an interesting topic to debate,& it keeps this thread on sports.
