Dear Friends;
I have installed a new SkyStar 2 card. It is working properly but I have 2 problems:

1- when I scan for channels either by ProgDVB or DVBViewer I only see's the horizontal transponders channels only.

2- I get only NileSat channels although I have Hotbird too.

My configuration is:
I use one dish with two LNBs: (NileSat + Hotbird) connected to the receiver by 4-way DiSEqC and I use the out from the receiver to connect to my SkyStar 2 .

Thank you in advance

Did you realize it is the receiver that has to select polarity (vertical or horizontal), and also select between the two LNBs by commanding the diseqc switch?
If your Skystar board is connected to the loop-out of the receiver, it has no control of either polarity, nor diseqc/LNB.

the receiver is configured properly for both LNBs and all channels (vertical and horizontal) are available on the receiver.

but I didn't understand you!!!
did you mean that I must make any other configuration on receiver for the SkyStar card to work properly.

Whatever the last satellite and polarity the receiver selected, that is the only thing the Skystar card can receive.
For example, if you tune the receiver to Hotbird vertical, then scan with your Skystar, all it will find are Hotbird vertical transponders.

If you wish to have complete freedom on the Skystar card, one way would be to get LNBs with two outputs...
...connect one output of each LNB to the existing switch and receiver.
...connect the other LNB outputs to a new switch, and then to your Skystar.

Most of us on this forum are in North America and cannot see your Nilesat nor Hotbird, but we do know our switches, LNBs, receivers, cards, and how to connect them.
We are very happy you've joined us and greet you warmly.
Welcome to the forum.! - :up

First of all I am so sorry for not replying yet but this is because of time differences (I was sleeping J)

Then thank you very much for this nice welcome message and I am really very happy to join this forum and ask such senior guys.

I know that most guys in this forum are in North America but regarding satellite issues I think the logic is almost the same with some minor differences.
The satellite cards are not so popular her in the Middle East, so the support in our forums lack the enough experience.

I don't want to bother you more with my case and make the problem more complicated; but really all what I wanted to know was to identify the problem as either a technical one (such as signal, low voltage, or cabling) or a configuration one (make certain changes in the receiver configuration)

I understood what you said but I have checked the receiver configuration again and it is configured well for both satellites and both LNBs . All channels frome both satellites and with both polarities are available without problems .

My last question: does buying two new LNBs with two outputs and new switch (and new cabling issues) is the only solution for my case?

Sorry for annoying you again and thank you in advance

It makes us think harder when we have a new problem.
So, we are not bothered at all. ;)

The suggestion with two-output LNBs was the first that came to me.
Perhaps other members will offer their opinions.

You can test my idea by connecting your existing switch output to the Skystar card instead of the receiver.
Then, the Skystar should work well on both satellites and both polarities.
Please understand that configuring software for the card is quite complicated for the first time.
I'm sure we have some members here who can help you with that, but most of my experience has been with DVB Dream and MyTheatre, and that was a long time ago. :)
