New to the satguys...

I have an HD-ready TV. I want to get OTA HD. I DO NOT have a Directv subscription. Can I still get OTA HD without a subscription? I know I need a decoder/receiver. I was thinking about getting a Hughes HD HTL off ebay. Would this work for me? Do I need to get a different decoder/receiver? Any thoughts or suggestions would helpful to me since I am a newbie.

Thanks peeps...enjoy the heck out of this forum.

You can buy a set-top box without getting satellite for about $179 - $225

The Hughes will work fine for both OTA and satellite if you want both.

So you would get a "set-top box" instead of the Hughes HD HTL? What "set-top box" would you recommend?
I was just stating that you CAN buy a set-top box without getting satellite. I prefer the combo because I have both. I prefer the LG line.

LSS-3200a for DBS & OTA

LST-4200 for HD OTA (they make a version with a DVR)

You can find these two for $200 - $300 with some easy research.
