comfortably_numb has been talking about PBS channels OTA and streaming on another thread. That lead me to poking around a little bit with my search engine. I stumbled on this article and found it interesting so I'm passing it along to you. It should come as no surprise that PBS is slowly switching over to a fiber optic system that they call sIX. Read the section, "Transition Away From Satellite" for more information.

I remember watching PBS when it was on 125W and then having to upgrade my receiver to DVB-S2 when they transitioned in 2012. Ahhh, the good old days. :)

Thanks for that very detailed history of PBS and their satellite feeds. I remember watching PBS from Westar 1 on C Band. The article reminded me of the many changes since then that I had forgotten about.

NPR was also analog on Westar 1. But then they went digital and encrypted. Fortunately, there are quite a few individual NPR stations with DVB-S signals.

BEWARE! Do not buy from Electorica on Ebay!

New 1 meter dish! What is this 50 mm LNB?
