Point Dish No Signal, How Much Do Trees Matter?

I've moved my 1000.4 EA to a more serviceable location this week and cannot can any signal from any sat on point dish (all the equipment, wiring, switch etc. are unchanged.) I was getting pretty crappy signal before, never better than 50, and rain or snow easily would lose signal. Dish has been calling me about once a week saying my receiver is reporting signal loss (two HWS).

My elevation should be 37.9 degrees but there are some treetops that are worrisome. Last night, using good ole fashioned star gazing, I determined that these tree tops could be no taller than 31 degrees (Saturn, Spica, and Mars were a great help). Would this be close enough to cause signal problems?

You shoul have Dish come out and check the signal from the Dish location, or find someone with a meter. If Dish comes, they could readjust dish if necessary.

It doesn't seem like a difference of 7º should cause an issue. Remember, the satellite "beam" is pretty focused vs scattered.

Sooo...

Just figured, what the hell, i'll set the elevation to where the previous bolt was on the roof... simply lowering to 28 degrees and I get 60 signal on all sats

Attached picture is how it is set now.... my zip is 044xx... every resource I've looked at says 38 deg inclination... How could the dish mount be so wrong?!?!

Your dish is showing 37 degrees, it's not the bolt but the bracket that lines up with the markings.

It would appear that the previous installation had the mast significantly off-plumb.

Use a tool like dishpointer.com to determine your dish settings.

What are you using to see satguys? Bobby mentioned above using most internet browsers, the like button is below and to the right of the post. Quote is right next to it, but that is if you are wanting to quote multiple posts in a thread. Next to that is "Reply". This option will quote only the post you are replying to and take you right to the text edit box so you can type your message.

If you are using the Satelliteguys Reader/Tapatalk, tap on the post so it is highlighted. Above the post you will have all your options if you are looking at your mobile device in landscape mode. In portrait more you get "quote" and Like" with the three dot drop-down menu for the remaining options.
