I've had my BUD unhooked for almost a week while doing some renovations. I just hooked it back up and moved my dish over to Galaxy 26 Transponder 1 to listen to w0kie radio, and on my screen is a message:

WELCOME TO TEN!!

We will end residential service
on November 1st 2007

We can be see on
Dishnetwork & DirecTV

All Hotel & Commercial services
Call 1-800-###-#### (number intentionally left out by Davage)

Thanks for watching TEN!

The end is near for the Videocipher. When porn leaves analog videocipher, you know that the end is near for analog subscription services :)

I wonder where the w0kie radio channel is going to go now. I don't have a 4DTV unit so I can't pick up their 4DTV feed. I'll have to tune in this Friday night to see what Tom and Darryl say, or if Mike Kohl is reading this, maybe he knows what is going to happen with the w0kie radio feed that is on the 6.8 subcarrier of Ten.

W0kie has been in DC II for months on W3. I hate to say it but to stay alive with C & Ku band other then FTA you need a 4DTV.

I have been trying to bid on some 4DTV receivers on ebay, but they keep going beyond my price range. Having the channel up on Ku would be neat for all of the folks who aren't able to put up a C-Band system, especially if they went up on Ku using a DVB format.

Check your local thrift shops, flea markets, and garage sales. It took me two years, but I managed to find a working DSR-920 4DTV receiver at a flea market. I ended up buying it for $10.00

I keep looking for them, but the 4DTV unit was never really popular here in Canada. Most people chose to steal DirecTV back in the late 1990's due to lax copyright laws instead of buying 4DTV units and subscribing. What's a shame is that I've got a Starchoice Model 410 receiver here, which is a 4DTV unit, but the firmware is set up so that it only picks up Starchoice and I can't get it to tune into the other channels that are in free mode on Digicipher.. I'll keep hunting. I just hope that w0kie broadcasts somewhere that I can listen in via analog or DVB.

Davage,
I'm new to this forum and see that you are a senior member. I have a basic question.
If I buy a 4dtv receiver, will my choice of free c-band channels increase substantially or is 4dtv for subscription services only?

First let me say that I have some subscription channels, and I'm not going to go through the process of searching out and seeing which is "S" (subscribed) and which is free. I'm just not nice enough to take the time, almost "Sorry", but not!
If you have a previously activated receiver, there are some free channels.
If you have a Subscription to a channel or a channel package or packages, you can get several free channels.
If the receiver has never been activated, you probably won't get any free channels?
Good Luck!

Al
