Direct's current dish, Slimeline 5 lnb covers the 99, 101, 103, 110, and 119, so you don't have to go as far with thier dish and eventually they will be making that list smaller too.
So you don't need to cover as large an area, thye will eventually move to the 99, 101, 103 that way most everyone can get into an area of only 4 degrees apart.

200-250 ft is about all the farther I would expect it to work effectivley ...

Another option is to talk to your contractor/roofer & have them incorporate some type of permanent mount that is part of the finished install. It can look like an exhaust chimney vent, a stacked flat stainless shield mount, a direct 2 inch supported pole or modified support directly to a chimney (Just make sure the mount is perfectly plumb). Make sure to include an access pipe (with a u-joint or right angle top) for your cable runs directly into your attic. You can also use a standard attic vent as your cable point of entry. Starting from scratch, your options are limitless in regards to location & can sometimes be totally hidden from your main entrance. Just make sure your cable access pipe can accommodate 5 coaxial cables from the dish into the attic then into your new utility closet & switch.
