Hey all. I have a question regarding the PPV, (Directv cinema) whatever you call it. I have read threads saying you MUST have a broadband ethernet connection to "download" the movie to your receiver.

My question is, i just ordered G.I. Joe to record from the directv website to record to my HD DVR. The red light came on the front of my HD DVR and the movie is now showing in my list to watch.

If I can order a movie from the website, why would I want to connect a ethernet connection? Please give me pros and cons or if this is a suitable way to order movies. Thanks so much for your responses.

I think you are getting two things confused. There is PPV and On Demmand movies. PPV you don't need a broadband connection where On Demmand does require it.

Oh. I thought those names were interchangeable. What is the difference?

Biggest difference is the PPV is just another channel being sent from a satellite and is scheduled at certain times. On Demand is BroadBand based and can be started at any time.

Doh!! The movie according to the guide started at 10am but I didn't start the recording till 10:30. Does that mean I missed the first 30 minutes of the movie? I pressed play and a notice came up and said are you sure you want to watch, price given was 5.99. At that point, i chose "no" and exited. If i don't watch this movie, does it go away and I don't have to pay?
