problem with dvd player and component cables

i have a pioneer plasma tv and a phillips dvp 642 dvd player. i was using s video cable with it and it worked fine. yesterday i bought some rca component cables and hooked it up. the picture looks okay, but now there are vertical lines moving accross the screen and when there is text it is flickering and moving. what did i do wrong?

Did you switch your dvd player to Progressive Scan in the setup menu?
