Hello, I just joined because I am having a problem with my satellite. First of all, I have DirecTV. It knocks out my TV even in the slightest rain storm. I have a receiver in my house and one in my detached garage about 20 feet from my house. They are both DVR's. When I go in my house, the signal is at 87% and at 93% in my garage. I swapped receivers and then in my house it's at 93% and in my garage at 93% to 94%. Switched them back and it was at the original 87% in my house. I did all this thinking it was maybe a bad receiver, but it seems to work good out in my garage. I am going to try adjusting the dish a little today I think. I also thought that maybe it was the LNB possibly causing this problem. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? And, what should my signal be at when the dish is adjusted the best it can be? I'd say maybe around 97% or so should help significantly, but obviously I am no expert.

Welcome to the site !

Your dish strength should be 85 and up on most transponders.

With your SS where it is, you should not be losing your signal at the slightest rain.
Dish is probably OK or close enough, I would look elsewhere.
Check all your cable and connections for damage or corrosion. Is water getting in the connections.

Thats where I would start.

Each transponder has a different signal strength on each satellite so your report of 87% and 93% mean nothing without a corresponding satellite and transponder. Also if you have 2 DVRs each has 2 tuners so you would have different signal strengths on each tuner. WITH YOUR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE call Directv and set up a service call before you do damage to your system.

I only checked the 1st transponder. Yes, there is 2 tuners. They are usually about the same. Every once in a while one of the tuners will change a percent or so, but that's about it. I do not think it's a problem with any of the cable because it has been like this since the DirecTV first installed it a few years ago. All of the connections appear to be fine and have a little rubber grommet around them. Like I said, I am no expert, but it appears to me like the dish needs a little adjustment and maybe there could be a problem with the one DVR. I am just a little nervous to start adjusting the dish.

If your 85 and up, your dish is fine.
Call D* and let them send someone out.

Do you have the Protection Plan ?
If not there will be a charge.

Electronic things have tolerances and no two of the same item are exactly the same until you get into very expensive components. These are consumer rated items and that is the loosest tolerance of all. This includes the cable, every connector, the lnbs, receivers and metering circuits in there. What I am saying is the relative signals are normal for any satellite equipment. For it to go out with the slightest rain indicates water into something, usually connectors but if you've a damaged cable, it could be there.
