Hello guys,

long time lurker, first time post.

I recently moved to the Urbana-Champaign area. I have been a very satisfied dish customer since 3 years. Moved through three dish receivers and currently use Dish DVR 612.

Due to some senseless restrictive policies by the property management company, we are unable to install the dish to point to the usual SW direction at 110/119. So we pointed it to the 61.5 satellite.

:((( booo hooo

cant get any locals, cant get any SD channels and for some unknown reason no TNT. TNT does not show up on the program guide, even none of the premium channels dont show up on the program guide. Yeah, I clicked "All Channels" on the guide.

Surprisingly the guy I got connected to on Dish support was not very helpful.

Couple of questions for experts here:
1) Whats the deal with 61.5? What are my options with it? Can I not get locals on it at all?
2) If I connect an external antenna to the receiver, will I be able to use the DVR with the program guide? I am going to ask dish to remove local channels from my programming.
3) Why am I not getting TNT ?

Also, do you have any recommendations on which indoor antenna to use

Thanks a bunch!

K

gdarwin,

I did not understand a single word in your response. Sorry, noob alert!

I did search on the forums for EA setup. there seems to be some information. I will poke around. If anyone has time to explain it to me, that will be very helpful for me.

Thanks guys.

All I could find was 1 station on 129 for Champaign, IL; WCIA HD & WCIA SD. So, the OP would need a 1000.2 with 110, 119, & 129 for the Western Arc.

please elaborate.
What are they restricting? You didnt leave us a reason. Is this a home owners association or if you're renting a property manage that said it? What "restrictions" were put in place?

If you go with a Eastern Arc dish which sees 61.5/72.7 & 77W you would gain the programming but lose the locals completely as the SD locals are on 119 and HD is on 129

also something doesnt make sense. You say in 1st post

then last line is
I have no line of sight to anything south or south west

are they related in any way?

Sorry about not being clear

We just moved in to a new house in Urbana. The property is managed by a third party management company.

Due to the location of the house, the trees on the property and their policies regarding installing satellite dishes, I dont have a line of sight to the SW, W, NW, S directions from the only place they allow us to install a dish.

Due to this, ,my dish currently points to 61.5 instead of the usual "SuperDish" or "Dish 1000" directions. I assume they are pointed to the SW direction to 110 orbital.

I understand on 61.5, there are no locals and for some weird reason, no TNT.

There is only a single LNB installed with a switch. I have DVR 612 receiver.

I am interested in only HD programming, not really worried if I cannot get SD at all.

Hope I explained my situation clearly.

Thank you for taking interest in my question and spending your time on it.

Most HD is on 72.7 right now. There still is some HD on 61.5 but you need either a DIsh 1000.4 (that sees 61.5/72/77) or you might be able to jimmy rig the D500 you have to see both 61.5 & 72

As for the dish "policy"...what kind of policy do they have if you dont mind me asking? Reason I ask is sometimes companies may make outrageous rules for dish placement and the FCC does have a document that might help you.

As example if they say "no dishes on the north side of the house" and that is the ONLY spot where you can get it to work, the FCC document may help you.

Iceberg,

Thank you for your detailed reply. I will call back my dish installer, very nice & courteous, as ever, to see if he can help me with getting full reception using the information you provided.

I will also go through the FCC document to see if I can throw the book at the property management company :)

I love dish and their DVR, I really want to make sure I try everything to get full service.

Also, does anyone here have any experience with dish reception in central Illinois area? I am new here and yesterday there was a minor storm and I lost reception. Never had that problem in CA where I had dish for 3 years. I am wondering about reception during thunder storms and snow fall. (yay!)

Regards,
K

If the installer can get 61.5/72.7/77 you would get everything that you did before except locals. Those are on the "western Arc" which is 110/119/129
