Programming remote question

I have programmed my remote to control a Magnavox TV. When I found and selected the proper Model # it didn't work, so I then told it that I didn't know the model number. It then found a code that works, but only volume and Off.

The On function does not work.

Is this the best I'll be able to do, or is there maybe a "better" code that would control On/Off and Volume?

I don't know whether to keep looking into this, or just move on to something else, like something I can do something about.

The Remote is RC65x and the TV is Magnavox 14MS2331/17

That is how it works on my Phillips/Magnavox Tv (it is an older one).
It seems to be that one on some but not on others.

There may be a better code as some TV's have more then one code and some work betters then others.

However, if you can not find one, you will still be able to turn the TV on if you flip the switch to TV mode and press the "PWR" button.
If the receiver is on at the time you might get an onscreen warning to letting you know the remote is in TV mode. If so, flip it back in to DirecTv mode and hit exit.
