Questions about upgrading a receiver and adding service plan

First of all I am trying to save money but at the same time trying to get the most with the money I spend. I would like to know if it is necessary to have the service plan or can you add it when you need it. I know that I need to keep it for a while or else a $25 fee, just wondering if it is always necessary to have.

Second question is I currently have a 722 and a 322. I would like to know what would the difference be in price to have the 322 upgraded to a 722. More specifically I would like to know what would the difference be in monthly charges. For example is there an extra charge to have an additional receiver that is a DVR?

Service plan is optional. Going to a 722 from a 322 increases the monthly extra receiver fee to $17.

The first DVR on your account incurs the $6/mo DVR fee, but no other fee. Additional HD DVRs cost either $10/mo for the 612 or $17/mo for the 622/722/722k. Suggest keeping the 722k and adding a 612 for $10/mo, since dropping the 722k and adding two 612's would lose capability without altering the bill.

OK, in that case dropping one extra 722k drops your bill $17/mo, while adding two 612's raises it again by $20 ($10/ea).
