R10 hangs on "clock" icon

I work in a residential treatment center where one of the residents has a DTV R10 DVR. Over time, the lag between his selecting a program to record and the selection registering has grown increasingly longer. the "clock" icon hangs on the screen for as long as a few min. As the owner of the machine finds the wait very frustrating, I was wondering if there is a remedy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How full is the hard drive? How many Season Passes are set?
You could do a Clear Settings, not the Clear Everything, to see if that helps.
