Recorded events disappearing

I have a 508 (software version P409) that just started randomly dropping previously recorded events. I know of at least 4 recorded events that were there this a.m. when I checked and are now gone. One was recorded 7/11/2010 and I remember thinking that it was nuts to have something almost 1 year old and that I'd better watch it soon. It's gone (unwatched) along with two events that were recorded just last night (still show in the event history as DONE).

At first I thought that the 508 seemed to be dropping things off the ends i.e. oldest and newest, but then I noticed that something recorded a few months ago was also missing. Don't know exactly how many recorded events I had in total this a.m. but I had 53+ hours free. Now I have only 7 recorded events and 56+ hours free. Where'd they go???? Is this the beginning of the end?

Unplug the receiver for 15 seconds, let it reboot, and monitor the problem.

If recordings are still being deleted, we can look at getting you a replacement receiver sent out.

A 512 if I'm not mistaken. This is a good receiver. I went from a 501 to a 625 (very similar to the 522/512) and loved it.

I had already done this - unplugged for several minutes then let it reboot. No additional events are missing so far. I'll keep an eye on it. I guess the ones that are gone are gone for good (or bad)...

Still losing recorded events

Unfortunately I'm still losing recorded events. The latest was last evening. I had a timer event for 5-6pm which recorded (apparently) successfully. While watching it later the screen suddenly froze and a set top box reboot took place. After the reboot, the recorded event was gone. Is there some way to force a reformat of the hard drive? I'm clearing the remaining few recorded events off and will delete all existing timers. Would really like to try a disk reformat if that's possible. Thanks, Pat

Found the codes

Well, I found the codes elsewhere and tried running a diagnostic on the HDD - which passed. I'll keep the HDD reformat code to try as a last ditch effort if more recorded events disappear.

Just a reminder that if you have to get the 508 replaced there will be a dvr fee added to your bill.

Actually when a 508 is replaced any additional DVR and receiver fees will be adjusted off the customer’s account before the customer is billed.

Nice to see that Dish has changed the policy on that then.So how long is the fee waived? Is it permanent?Reason I ask is because I was offered an upgrade on a 501 just couple of months back and was told that with a 512 which is what they offered there would be a dvr fee. Also still see several posts of others that have been recently upgraded from 501/508 and are now being charged dvr fees.

There's a difference between replacing and upgrading. If a 501/508 is replaced due to a receiver failure problem, the DVR fee for the 512 is adjusted off by another dept until there is a more permanent solution.

If you upgrade, you do have to pay the DVR fee

Thanks for the explanation Matt.Any ideas on what the more permanent solution is?
