Relocating setup to different room question

I am thinking of relocating my setup to the upstairs living area. I have an external HD enclosure hooked up to it. I want to be sure that if I power down everything including the external drive that I will not lose all my recordings. Has anyone else done this or know for sure?

There is no risk to powering down everything. The external drive should be powered up before the DVR.

Thanks for the response. That is one of the things I fear most is losing all my shows before I get to watch them
