My most useful and simple tool when finding a satellite, made it with white picket fence stick with a compass glued to it, with the North/South axis of the compass aligned with the pointy part of the picket. First you hold the stick facing south (180 degrees magnetic), then, knowing the magnetic azimuth of your satellite from the lookup table, e.g. 97W (225 degrees) you rotate the stick 45 degrees to your right using the compass. Calculation: 225 degrees minus 180 = 45 degrees.

Simple tool anyone can make anywhere in the world, rich or poor, young or old, doesn't matter. You could even use a tree branch provided it is somewhat straight. A tool for the masses. Cheap, useful, nothing not to like about it.

You heard it first, here on satelliteguys :eureka

Yeah, that's clever. We need to include that in the directions.

Add an elevation meter (string with weight and protractor blued to stick) and away you go! :)
