hey everyone i need help, i was a directv customer for 13yrs they was going to charge me 250 for upgrading to HDTV. So i went with Dish this was 6 months ago i have had 3 Receivers in the last month. I can't us my Hdmi cable because it makes cracking and popping noise, i have to use the component cables, but the box makes a clicking noise even when the tv isn't on i got a email from a dish tech who saids the hard drive is going out(brand new receiver less than a week old) he saids call for another receiver. i can upgrade to another receiver but on their forum its is having problems also. Plus it will cost me to upgrade i don't how much yet. if i stop my service it will cost me about 200 dollars. Here is my question what is the best Directv receiver if i come back the one with less problems. I only have one Hdtv and i have a DVD player that is all, would love to get something that i can use my Hdmi cable The way it is now i can't tape any of my show on a dvd there is no room on the back of the dish receiver. Right now i got the 250 tubor package from dish would like to get about the same from directv. I love the golf channel.

This my biggest problem with D*. You cannot specify which receiver you want. You get what is on the installer's truck. BTW, with all the trouble you have with the Dish, I have to ask, did you have them in WELL ventilated areas or were they closed up. Heat is the most common problem for symptoms as yours. People will stick them in entertainment centers, place other components on top or below. That's nearly a guarantee for failure.
When it first started with the first receiver i did have it in a entertainment center not well vented but it out in the middle of room it seem to help, went and bought a new on well vented on all sides. but was still having the problem, just booted this receiver this morning now its making a huming sound, plus just pop about 30 min ago, everything was ok except for the clicking thought i would boot it because that what they want to you to do when you call them. i am getting ready to call them now to see what is up. thanks for your reply. i had read that it depends what is on the trucks.
