Hey All,

Stupid question here. How new is RG6 cable?

My house was built in late 1995 should it already be run with this cable?

I was just asking in case I run into a nightmare install if I'm told that on Friday.

Thanks

It has been around a lot longer than that, but whether it was used when your house was built would be a contractor's rather arbitrary choice.

Ain't no use worrying about stuff you got no control over, because if you got no control, ain't no use worrying.

Cable TV companies were using RG6 almost exclusively as far back as the mid 1970s, even quad-shield RG6. Personally I can't imagine a house built in the mid-1990s being pre-wired with anything other than RG6 (or 6 quad).

For satellite use, plain RG6 is fine. For CATV use RG6/Quad. Quad shield coax (available in RG6, RG7 and RG11 sizes) is used by CATV providers to help battle against both ingress and egress radiation (leakage) which is not a problem at satellite frequencies.
