Disappointing, always more irrationality and FUD rather than discussion when it comes to topics like these.

How is not wanting to remove or drastically change the kickoff being irrational?

Doesn't make sense to me. If you want to get rid of the kickoff just give the ball to the team that was scored upon at their 20 yard line.

Let's take it a step further and just eliminate all kicking. No kickoffs, punts, point afters, or field goals.

I wonder how many kickoffs result in touchbacks, placing the ball at the 20-yard line, or runs that don't get past the 20-30 yard line ? I don't think that the small number of times that a kickoff is ran back 90-100 yard for a touchdown would skew the "average kickoff return" either as it occurs so rarely.

I mean, unless it is ran back, kickoffs are rather boring. It's not like punts where a kicking team player can run downfield as fast as the ball, time things just right, and blast the punt returner at the right instance (presuming he doesn't call for a fair catch).

That's because of that stupid new rule of where they have to kick it from.

The NFLPA will N E V E R go for this as speacial teams jobs will be lost.

I know am probably pissing in the wind here but how about better helmets and stiffer penalties for helmet to helmet contact? Seems alot simpler than modifying a game that's been around longer than television.

Cheers, K

NFLPA will go for it as long as they get something in return. Roster sizes will still be the same, and the same amount will still be paid to players, that's all they care about. Only position in danger is kickoff returner, and for the most part those guys return punts too.

I do not agree with this at all! If they want to implement it fine, make it an OT only thing and eliminate the scenario for a tie game after 1 OT.
