Roof dish for 125

There are a lot of threads about receiving 125W. It is not very high powered and problematic for a lot of hobbyists. While you could be fine with that dish, chances are it's too small for reliable reception.

Ordered the dish this morning. I'm off work Monday, so I'm hoping it arrives by then so I can set it up on my temporary ground mount and see if 125 comes in. If it does, I'll put it up on the roof!

If you can get Montana PBS (11916 V 2398 2/3) you should be good on the main PBS feeds. All the 24/7 feeds are S2 and can be difficult to lock down.

I seem to have pretty good luck at my location, which is pretty close to the geographic center of the US. When I point my dish head-on to 87, I get the LPBS stations just fine; same with 103, I get full signal on all the NBC stuff. Hopefully I'll be in a good spot for 125 as well.

Dish arrived today. Looks a ton like my Geosat Pro 90cm, just slightly smaller. Got it put together quickly, now going outside to see if I can get 125 on it

I didn’t like the LNB bracket that came with the dish, so I drilled a hole in the top of the arm and put a GeoSat LNB bracket on the dish. The GeoSat bracket is numbered for easier skew, and allows for easier adjustment of the LNB

I wasn’t able to get 125w on my 76cm, but I guess I didn’t try hard enough. How does your quality compare to the amiko mini he re?

The same. The RE shows slightly lower signal quality, but I think it’s just a difference in the way the meter displays it. What part of the US are you in?

It was almost too easy finding 125. I was connecting coax, standing next to the dish (which I had just moved to an arbitrary location), and boom, it was locked on 125 already. The elevation is so low that the arm almost touches the mast. I can't imagine how I could ever receive any satellites west of 125, because they are so low on the horizon. As far as Dish Network installs go at this location, it's a toss-up between Eastern Arc and Western Arc. Both Dish Network dishes on my roof are Eastern Arc. DirecTV is what it is (see photo; they have one dish up on the roof with a D2Lite box in our maintenance room).

Happy to report that the 75cm roof dish for 121 and 125 has been working flawlessly for the past week. Signal quality on 125 is consistently 90%

Signal on Velocity is high 40’s-middle 50’s, while the other TP’s on 121 are high 70’s. I had my doubts about this smaller dish but it’s exceeded expectations. And for only $83 and free shipping.

I need a dish slightly smaller than my 90cm GeoSat Pro for mounting on the roof. This would be a dedicated dish for 125 since I have LOS issues on my GeoSat dish. Will this work? I think I can safely mount this on my roof without a lot of wind resistence issues:

30"x34" Oval Ku Band Satellite Dish Antenna (NO LNB INCLUDED) | eBay

Depending on your lication, i am using a direct tv slimline mounted on the ground. For 125. Not a single problem. Get all of 125 clear and strong.

Numb,

Did you pick up any H transponders on 125W? I just setup a Winegard DS76 (76 cm) on 125W and have Montana (11917/V/2397) at 56% Q and 12180/V/30000 at 74% Q but no H transponders at all.

Sathint shows some H transponders, but I don't get any. Using my MicroHD and a Avenger universal PLL.

Thanks

I see 12121 H 30000 at a signal quality of 90

I find that the PBS feeds require the dish to be dead-on. I fine-tuned it this afternoon after the temperatures outside reached the mid-80’s.

When I first set up the dish, it was cold outside and I was also using a GeoSat LNB holder instead of the one that came with the dish. As outside temperatures warmed, afternoon signal quality began to suffer. Installing the original LNB holder and peaking the dish today fixed the signal issues.
