Hi everyone
Love your site. I have been in to FTA for about one year now and have a few questions.
I have found most answers on this site but need some help please. I can’t fined the answers but I am sure there here some ware. Sorry if you have all ready answered this before but I don’t see it.

I have been trying to get RTV on AMC 9. No luck. I tried with a 30inch dish with no luck. I have tried all the deferent t.p.settings no luck. I can get AMC 9 no problem with this dish but no RTV. So I bought a cheep 38-inch dish.
Same thing no problem getting AMC 9 but no RTV. The quality reading was the same with ether dish I used. I pointed the 38inch dish at galaxy 27 and picked up white springs t v good strong signal in the high 70’s was in the high 80’s before the change in the tp numbers. So the 38-inch dish works. So now I am thinking of buying a good name brand 4or 5foot dish to try and get RTV. But before I do, what I would like to now is anyone getting this in my area?
I live at Sechelt b. c. Canada , about 170miles north of Seattle on the west coast. I do realize the signal is very week from this tp and it may not be possible to get this at all here.

Also I was wondering if I can run two dish motors on one setup? There are a lot of trees on the property I live on so I have 4 dishes ‘in one location and two are set on the other side of some trees. Could I set one dish and motor up to catch part of the arc on one dish, then set one dish and motor up to get the other side of the arc? Then I could take a few dishes down. My wife doesn’t see the same beauty in the dish's as I do.
I would keep my small 18inch dish for echo 7 to watch the NASA channel.

My set up is viewsat 2000 platinum extreme receiver then a few feet of rg6 then an inline amplifier then 100 feet of rg6 to a set of switches. One is an ecoda 22khz tone switch then two-ecoda diseqc 4 in 1 switches from the tone switch to the dishes. 1 diseqc has 4 dishes. The other has 2. On the switch with the two, one is on 100 ft of rg6 and the other is on 160ft of rg6 after the switch. The 4 dishes are on short runs of rg6 right buy the switches.

I was thinking of using the tone switch and have one dish and motor on this switch then
A diseqc switch on the other half of the tone switch; have a dish with motor from one port and the 18’’ dish off of another port for nasa channel. So one motor would be right at the switches on 100ft run rg6 And the other dish and motor would be on a total of 260ft rg6.
Hope this isn’t to confusing. Dose this make any sense?
Thanks for you time and help.

I only have a 31 inch dish and it's coming in here now. I get the west coast and rtv tonight.

I'm just to the west of you and I get them not to bad. the last day or so they have been better.

Have you found the settings on this site to set them at? on my Viewsat I had to add them manually. I also have a Satopia which scans them right in.

You have a lot of switches.... everytime you add a switch it drops your signal a tad. I would even take the inline amplifier out, most times it tends to add noise and drop signal.

Elmwood could you tell me were you are at? Are you close to here?

Gmd63 yes I have found all the settings on this site and manually input them thanks.
Could you tell me were you are at gmd63 and dish size please? Also I set each dish up by taking TV and receiver out side to dish but still no luck getting it. The signal drops when the amp is removed.
Any idea on motors? I my have to clear cut the trees and get one big dish. But there are lot of trees. I my have to go for a bigger dish after all.
Thanks very much to you two guys for getting back to me.
Really appreciate this help

Might be reciever and the switches rather than the dish size. I have an Icon, sister to the Satopia the other poster mentioned-it has no problems with RTV here at 33N. I'm using a .90primestar / channel master dish. I would try running a test cable straight to the dish from receiver without the switches and see if it will come in for you. Take the tv and rec out to the dish if you can (I bought 150' extension cord to tweak all mine with lol). That RTV tp is harder to get for some receivers, because of that "LEO" tp that is so very close to the same freq. I would prob lose the in-line amp in the mix also, I'm about 150' from the house with my dishes and have never needed any kind of amp. In fact I have read that in some cases they hurt more than help.

Bigger dish?

I've seen a lot of channels come and go, so I'm not sure that it is a good idea to base one's purchase plans on getting one channel. -- Just a thought.

Thanks for the input turbosat. I do tune in my dishes by taking TV and receiver out side to dish and use about 10ft rg6 to set it up. I was thinking maybe receiver but I see others are get it with viewsats. I really do get a better reading when I use my in-line amp. It drops by about 10 points with it off. I will try it again with out amp se what happens. Also the readings stay the same after every thing is hooked back up inside. One of my dishes is on a total 0f 260feet run with switches and works great. I am really glade to fined people in my area and turbosat your right next door in Alberta and getting it so there's hope here . it’s a hobby!

Thanks for you help on this turbosat

Thanks Othea. I am sure you are right! but I think my long term plain is to put this dish on a motor and take the other 6 down so I was thinking big dish for this plain. Long term plain A!!
Thanks for you thought. It’s a good one

My mistake!! sorry turbosat. thanks for pointing that out to me ICEBERG I guess I saw alta. I thought you were next door.
Any one else on this side of the world getting rtv?
thanks Paul

Surfing the net for answers to two motorized dish question and it looks like some people are doing it but it seems it is not without problems.
I think I will set up two sepert receivers and dishes and use the TV to switch between receivers. Seems the easiest rout to take.
I took the in line amp out and the quality reading did not change but the signal reading
Dropped pay 17 points. So I put it back in line.
I am going to try for rtv this weekend. I let you now if I get it.
Thanks for everyone’s help with this especially member gmd63 for extra encouragement.
Enjoy you weekend.

Good work west, glad you got it. I hadn't checked this thread in a while, lol. Sometimes I wish I WAS in Alberta , haha, esp when its 90+ and 70% humidity here.

Thanks TURBOSAT. It was a challenge and lots of fun getting this one. Now that sounds like some ugly weather your having. A Cool beer or two helps.
We had a hot spell in July. I can relate. Wouldn’t be long and will be complaining about the snow!!! Ha ha!!

Thanks ICEBURG nice to now I am in the right ballpark with quality readings.
