SkyAngel Plans Move to IPTV

I don't think it is truly anger as much as simple hurt. And that is not a completely bad thing for it meant that the people truly loved Skyangel and it's original message.

I feel that shows character of people that they were not just talking the talk, but were truly trying to walk the walk. Obviously no one is perfect, but these people were trying their best.

And when you care about something that much, it does hurt. Can't help it, its just a human response. But it will gradually go away just as Skyangel's DBS is.

Give it about a year after the final plug is pulled and Skyangel will be just a fond memory to those who hurt now, but can look back and see the good that come from having it as long as they did.

But I agree, anger can be a cancer and life is too short, and other growing alternatives do exist.

My Sky Angel signal died a few days ago. It was not a SA shutoff, but an equipment problem. I debated whether to spend the $$ getting it fixed and decided I would. Meanwhile, I moved my FM transmitter from my Dish receiver to my computer and got busy exploring ways I could continue to transmit the audio of my favorite music and teaching programs to all the radios in my house.

I gather that for most of you, Sky Angel TV offerings are more important than the radio channels. For me, I find that most of the TV offerings I watch are also available at some time on my cable system (so I spent some time setting regular DVR taping for those), also on-line, but I frankly prefer the radio channels and would miss them more than the TV. I can listen to most of the radio stations on-line, along with many other great on-line radio options.

Using Live 365 radio (free), iTunes (free), OnePlace podcasts (free) and other live streams, along with an Internet Explorer favorite links folder for getting around quickly, I am thoroughly enjoying almost all of the programming I have enjoyed as a 10-year SA lifetimer, plus much more. Podcasts download automatically into iTunes, so a ministry's daily program is readily available at whatever time I choose to listen to it. Technology has changed -- I can pretty much watch/listen to what I choose, when I choose.

I am grateful that SA introduced me to programming that makes a difference in my daily life. I am not 100% sure I won't go with SA IPTV, but I probably won't. I realize much of what I am doing is not available to those who do not have high-speed Internet service. But if you do, there are many ways you can tailor your own programming options. I will use whatever time is left on my SA lifetime subscription to explore programming and look for alternative ways to receive it.

I will miss Aspiring Women and Jerry Rose's interview show, but I emailed TLN and they say they plan to begin live streams soon.

Another advantage of the FM transmitter is that while the Moody station we receive locally has a lot of background noise, I can alternatively play that station on-line and transmit it to all my radios without the noise, thanks to the FM transmitter.

Hope I have not ventured off-topic, but my point is that there are great alternatives available (Glorystar being another for those who can't get high-speed Internet) to help keep Christian programming in our lives.

sadly they probabl;y have no choice, but the black eye they deserve by essentially cancelling lifetime subs will haunt their organization forever/

at minimum lifetime subs should get 10 years free of their new service.

sky angel is earning a bad reputation:( esically bad for whats supposed to be a christian organization:(:(

for ME my 100 bucks I spent years ago was a excellent purchase, and now I dont have to move my 61.5 dish which has tree issues. I was going to move it to the rear of our home to end the tree trouble permanetely..........

I hope they get sued and lose... lifetime subs by paying in advance helped fund the start up....... and now get screwed

who knows when if sky angel will follow through

after all sky angel doesn't seem to be sticking with much these days. On again off again channels, moving spirit back and forth, losing familyland etc

You might as well pick up some equipment on ebay. You probably have 8-10 months left of sky angel DBS. Last time I checked you can get a dish 2700 and remote for under $20. its not fancy but it works to get SA!

I have been receiving emails regarding a possible law suit against sky angel. who knows what will happen if that gets off the ground ............ with IPTV

I got the lawsuit e mail too and will participate although I have no idea what happened to the original paperwork so many years ago.

I will call them tomorrow, they need some complaint calls, to give them pause about what they are about to do.........

Not sure about class lawsuit

I would like to know what the goal is eg continue DBS broadcasting, switch lifetime to IPTV, financial etc. it may be too early in the game for this as sky angel has not even "officially" notified its subscribers. I do have my email from nancy which clearly states that they will not continue the lifetime subs with IPTV. I had really hoped that this could be resolved more amicably although sky angel and nancy in particular has ceased all communication with me. I find these so called press releases particularly disturbing when they haven't even notified their paying or lifetime/prepaid members. I think a lot more stuff will hit the fan once ALL the subscribers are made aware of the changes

I would like to see more "official" info and the lawyers qualifications who wants to pursue this lawsuit. has he represented class action lawsuits in the past? Has he won those suits? IF we should choose to go with a class action suit we want to go with the best legal team we can find.

I have to agree. SA* has not stated its plans for the future, at least not directly to subscribers, or lifelong subscribers. So they should have a chance to do so. But the clock is ticking.

Got my Sky Angel equipment repaired today after being without a signal for about a week. I had decided I'd put up to $100 into continuing Sky Angel for however long the DBS service lasts, cost $90 to get it back up and running with a strong signal. I have tree issues anyway (neighbors' trees, not mine), so would likely have had a problem soon anyway.

So now I have had a taste of life without SA and spent the time exploring alternatives. I've concluded there are solutions, but also that I'll use and appreciate SA while I have it.

I wonder how the lawyers find out who the lifetime members are. Does SA have to disclose the list? BTW I haven't been contacted, yet.

class action suit

Judging from past suits(such as kodak making instant cameras) if there is a judgement Sky angel would be required to attempt to locate all members and notify them giving them the option to opt in or out of the class action suit. this is in case someone would rather sue them individually. it has to be one or the other, not both.

Does anyone have any info on the company doing Sky Angels IPTV service? A few people have told me (and I don't know if its true) that they are the same folks who just purchased the 175 channel porn IPTV service ITVN.

If anyone has any information on this please let me know.

neulion

NeuLion, the Index of / service co-owned by Cablevision's Charles Dolan and computer magnate Charles Wang, will distribute the Sky Angel Christian TV networks in the US.

haven't found anything about PORN yet, but if so I think that will be the end of sky angel for sure :(

Shiftv is the IPTV provider for sky angel canada. Can't find any info on the so far

horrible, what has skyangel gotten themselves into?

This is all horrible then! If its true as it appears then sky Angel has joined hands with the devil. If this is true then their canadian affiliate is now a major porn player :( How in the world has this happened?

Porn TV - Forbes.com
On the other hand, porn is in abundance at ITVN. And unlike the relatively tame version on pay-per-view cable and satellite, ITVN's 5,000 or so subscribers get access to 30,000 hours of porn in all its explicit glory, organized by 70 fetish genres, studios or performers.
Not surprisingly, XTV was co-founded by David Koenig, a well-known name in the porn industry whose Holio.net is a top Internet site.

They have provided the streaming in Canada for a while for SA Canada
No big surprise there, they have been running much of the streaming for them for awhile now.

But SA US & SA Canada are two different companies. As you noted above, a company run by Charles Dolan will run the SA US version
NeuLion, the Index of / service co-owned by Cablevision's Charles Dolan and computer magnate Charles Wang, will distribute the Sky Angel Christian TV networks in the US.

Charles Dolan runs cablevision (a huge cable company in NY) and use to own Voom (which was a satellite provider until Dish bought them out), founded HBO, and owns Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music hall and a couple sports teams.

So he has money to put into it :)

E* carries adult material as well (admittedly not 175 channels of it...) - granted the SA* deal with E* was controversial as well.

NEWSFLASH:

Christians Live in the Real World!

Many to express shock. A few will sue! "Why didn't God immediately remove us from all this potential contact with sin!" "Why does He expect us to reach out to 'sinners'? They are so sinful!"

No new Word from Heaven.

More details in the future....

Brad
