Hi Guy's
I just picked up a SL3 dish ...
It has one LNB head (99, 101, and 103), and has 4 outputs.

Can I use this with the HR20-700's (the HR20's have a FTM designation with the Sat 1 input) is this the same thing as the SWM ?

I guess I need some more info on this dish before I set it up and try to use it... :)

On the LNB it says SL3 PIG

No, it's not an SWM dish. It is a slimline 3 which is like the slimline 5 except it only receives 99/101/103. So it's OK for people who don't have locals from 119, and who don't have the ethnic package on 119. It's perfect for people who can't get line of sight to 119 with the SL5 because no line of sight means guide problems, the SL3 always takes guide data from 101.

So this will do what I'm looking for, exactly ... I really am not concerned about the SWM set up, just the dish that gets the 99,101 and 103 . :)

With a regular 5LNB set up (AU-9) you say it gets the guide off the 119, when I put this one in it's place, I'm guessing it knows to find the guide on the 101 and my HR20 won't look for the 119 ?

Thanks Texasbrit :up

there is no guide that comes off the 119
all guide info comes from the 101

Didn't the guide use to come off the 119 at one time ?
It would make sense for it to always come from the 101 seeing thats the sat that is always used in all scenario's.

maybe a long time ago... maybe with the old legacy hd stuff
but all of that is basically worthless now anyways

Sorry scarebear, you're incorrect on this. With an SL5, the guide comes from 101 when you are tuned to a 99/101 channel. The guide comes from 119 if you are tuned to a 103/110/119 channel. This is part of the signal stack plan. There are four sets of signals from the SL5 dish, 99/101 even transponders, 99/101 odd transponders, 103/110/119 evens and 103/110/119 odds. When you are tuned to a 103/110/119 signal the receiver does not even see 101. That's why people with an SL5 who don't have line of sight to 119 have guide issues, because if they spend any length of time tuned to a channel on 103 (most of the HD channels) the guide does not refresh. The DirecTV systems even have a new test for this which generates an error 920 if the guide data from 119 is not received correctly.
The SL3 does not receive 110/119 so has no 119 guide data to send along with 103, but changes the stacking plan so that the 101 signals are sent down with the 103 signals, so you get guide data OK when you are tuned to a 103 channel. SWM systems also use only the guide data from 101 so don't need line of sight to 119.
