I use a coat hanger as a drill. Cut the point at an angle to drill through the floor etc. Use a long enough wire to go clear through the joist space. the wire leaves a very small hole! Run the drill fairly fast but push very lightly so the wire does not bend. if the wire whips, slow the drill down. Have fun!
