Forgot I had this tucked away in storage! - SONY DSS SAT B1
The house I am at now has an abandon Direct TV dish on the roof with 3/LNa
Will this old NOT HD receiver still work with DIRECT TV, if hooked up to the existing the dtv dish on the roof??

Thanks!

Depends on what dish is up there and if your a current sub.
As you mentioned, it's SD ONLY and VERY OLD.

The guide will not be what you have with the new stuff, I don't think it does 14 days out, possibly 7 days, more likely 3 days.

Btw, if your NOT a current sub, you are required to get a current recvr before you can activate the Sony.

Since it does NOT have a RID#, D* will ONLY reactivate it on the existing account it might have been on. They will NOT activate it otherwise, so you may as well throw it in the trash.

Thanks for the info...
btw... what is the "RID#, D*"
I had thought that it would have made a cheap account, no leased equipment and no HD, but looking at Dtv rates, it would be higher than my current DISH account with 2 HD receivers (1-DVR).

The LNB on the Direct TV dish is a California Amplifier, Tripple Feed/4-Output (150946)

Thanks

RID-Receiver ID
D*-shorthand for Directv.

Long version in regards to the D* thing....years ago there were 4 sat companies (actually 5)
Primestar
Alphastar
USSB (they worked with Directv and had the movies and the Viacom nets)
Directv
Echostar (Dish Network)

since 3 ended in star it became E*, P*, A* and by default D*
