Starband is noe FAP free from 12 midnight to 6 AM EST

StarBand or DirecWay/HughesNet was already FAP free from 3 am to 6 am already wasn't it? I don't know if I would buy a system knowing this as they could end up changing this at any time after you signed up and would be stuck with a contract.

DW has been FAP free from 3AM to 6AM for the past few months.

HN, WB and *B all reserve the right to change the terms of service at any time, Indeed HN recently did just that and caused an uproar. Basically they have you by the nuts once you sign on......Just the nature of the beast.

To keep people from getting confused and come to this thread thinking Hughes FAP is horrible. I am just here to balance things out. For average person that is researching a satellite internet provider I would safely say 75% do not know what a MB is. I am not sure if WB or SB has a usage monitor but Hughes does so you can keep track in case you think you may be reaching your limit. The new 5.6.0.18 software for the HN7000s even has a FAP monitor built right in.

Also Hughes has a 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee. Installation charges are not refundable.

My wife stays home and uses the computer throughout the day. This would be a typical browsing and even a windows update for my computer was in here.

As time goes on there will be more and more bandwidth that will be needed to load pages and games as webpages and so forth will require more and more.

Not sure what other starband dealers do but I ALWAYS have offered a 30 day money back gaurantee on all equipment.

*B also has a bandwidth monitor on the customer portal so you can watch your usage.

A 12 Midnight to 6AM EST free period is a great news for west coast and Alaska customers especially.

Starting Nov 15th new pricing will go into effect. $69 for 128 X 1024 with a 2GB per 7day rolling average FAP and $99 for 256 X 1512 with a 5 GB 7 day rolling average FAP

And actually if you factor out the FAP free 6 hours each night it's more like a 5.25 day rolling average

Equipment is $299.99 MSRP

As part of the new plans and to meet the needs of SOHO and small business customers, *B will now be offering new PC professional support services . These services offer a significant value to customers and are either not offered with competitor services or are offered with an additional charge. PC professional support services include:

· 3 free hours per year of technical support (based on 30 minute increments).

· Support for setting up a basic wired or wireless home network including router and PC configuration (limited to support for major brands).

· Support for setting up all major email clients and web browsers.

· Support for configuring several common firewalls and anti virus software (including Windows updates).

· 10 hours of dial-up backup service.

· Continued support for all other existing StarBand Help Desk services.

. Up to 15 POP e-mail addresses.

. 500MB of webstorage for personal files or a website

. Customer support located here in the USA with real Americans using their real names and speaking real English

These are great changes in the right direction.

That's when there is the least amount of load on the bandwidth so that's why they have this at this time of night. Some people start downloads at night and let them go all night long.

In most agreements when one party makes a change the other party has the option to cancel.

What makes these guys immune to normal business practices?

Has this 'contract' been tested in court on this one?

i dont know about this contract specifically.... but almost ALL contracts I have seen from any kind of service has a line somewhere that says "terms and conditions subject to change" (or something to that effect)

If someone has a specific period of time to cancel then how long do they have? If it says "terms and conditions subject to change notice" without stating that they can get out of it if those terms change, then can a person get out of it? If so how long do they have? I would think that if someone signs something agreeing that it can change then they can't say anything if it does change. Most companies use that term.
