Hello everyone,

I've been all over the internet delving into all sorts of information I've never been exposed to before in an effort to try to find out if I'll be able to get local channels when i travel 100 miles from home this weekend to tailgate.

I live in Montgomery, AL and will be traveling to Tuscaloosa, AL and so far I've been unable to figure out what spot beam my service is currently on and if I'll be able to get reception with my portable dish when I get to Tuscaloosa this weekend. I've looked at all the spot beam maps I can find but based on what i see it looks like i could be in 2 or 3 different beams. Some look like i would have reception. Others maybe not. Is there a way to determine what beam I'm on?

Any help anyone could provide would be much MUCH appreciated.

Thanks!

If allowed to cross reference , I can answer your questions.
gct weekly TPN map at IAMANEDGECUTTER (Directv Resource Forum/ Transponder Maps) records Montgomery LILs from D14 Beam A10.
Except PBS from Bham beam A11 Beam A4B5 and the infomercial LOOK Ch #2 on the SD National Beam Sat D8.
Looking at (IAMANEDGECUTTER/Directv Resource Forum/ Interactive Beam footprint Library) and downloading the .KMZ file compiled by TSpeer of SAT D14 Beam A10L (Dothan/Montgomery) then opening with Google Earth you will get a great map of your LIL footprint.
Anything inside the PINK ring is pretty good reception and this easily includes Tuscaloosa.
Yes you'll be OK, IF you can setup and align your dish properly. Not an easy task unless you've done it many times , but that's a different question!

Thanks Doctor J!

I went through that whole process but just had so much trouble with all the lingo. I've set my dish up in my backyard a couple times and think I'm fairly proficient at it. Finding 101 pretty easy and I've been able to get above 90% reception. My receiver utilizes 99, 101, and 103 but i think my locals come in on 101 so I guess I'll just try to peak that and go with it.

Again, thanks Doctor J. Posted on another forum a few weeks back and never heard from anyone.

Your welcome.
You are in an MPEG 4 only Local market.
Your locals are HD only (SD receivers downconvert)
They are on Sat D14 at 99 degrees.
If you get 101 >90 signal strength and tilt is correct, 99 and 103 should be close
SAT 99 TPN 4 is where most of you LILs are
