A few questions about upgrading equipment or maybe buying our own equipment and maybe adding another coax cable line for the other bedroom

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my questions about upgrading or buying our equipment.

I will get into my questions below. Our contract with dish will be up in late February of 2026 and the family was talking about either staying with dish or going somewhere else for tv services. We talked about maybe this time buying our own equipment from dish or from a dealer. Our current set is two hoppers with sling I cannot recall what the hopper version is 1 or 2. I think its version 2 and one joey. Our duo node from dish is 185836 and satellite dish is 1000.2.

1. Can the hopper 3 with sling work with 1000.2 satellite dish and duo node of 185836.?

2. Which dealer would you recommend buying the hopper 3 with sling from if we go that way for it.? We live in western washington state if that helps.

3. If we do buy equipment to own will dish network give us problems about it. Can we own more than one hopper on our account with them?

4. If we could we would like to own most of our equipment, maybe one hopper 3 that would be mine, and maybe another hopper 3 or hopper 2 with sling for my parents for their living room and maybe one joey for their bedroom.?

5. What steps should we take to make sure dish network knows we own our equipment like hoppers and joey. The satellite dish and duo node is their equipment and not ours.

6. There was some small talk about asking dish network to come out and add another coax cable line and maybe getting another joey for the other bedroom. Will dish network allow your home to be wired for four rooms? If so, what can I do to help dish network at my end?

7. What other things should we think about before we go this way if we do. I want to stay with dish, mom is really thinking about changing ships on this and dad is in the middle about this and really does not care. He just wants his western channels and mgm channels.

If I have missed any info about this, please let me just looking forward to getting advice about this and what steps to take to do this right and safely.

1. Can the hopper 3 with sling work with 1000.2 satellite dish and duo node of 185836.?
No. A Hopper 3 requires hybrid equipment - DPH LNBF and a Solo Hub

2. Which dealer would you recommend buying the hopper 3 with sling from if we go that way for it.? We live in western washington state if that helps.
Buy serves no purpose other than turning the service per box on and off as needed. You still pay the same monthly amount for the equipment as you do leasing it

3. If we do buy equipment to own will dish network give us problems about it. Can we own more than one hopper on our account with them?
You can buy as many as you want, but they'll only activate 2 at a single address
4. If we could we would like to own most of our equipment, maybe one hopper 3 that would be mine, and maybe another hopper 3 or hopper 2 with sling for my parents for their living room and maybe one joey for their bedroom.?
A Hopper 3 and a Hopper sling cannot be activated on the same account

5. What steps should we take to make sure dish network knows we own our equipment like hoppers and joey. The satellite dish and duo node is their equipment and not ours.
They'll know

6. There was some small talk about asking dish network to come out and add another coax cable line and maybe getting another joey for the other bedroom. Will dish network allow your home to be wired for four rooms? If so, what can I do to help dish network at my end?
Dish will install as many lines as you need

What is to be gained from owning, < in leasing fees?
Only real advantages to owning vs leasing. is you don't have to send it back.. you can add rooms and disconnect joeys when there not needed you can modify it since you own it like swapping the HDD for an SSD. i don't think i would do that one... or if ones credit is so trashed it's cheaper to buy the boxes vs leasing em... each joey is 5.00 and not 7.00. one can spend hundreds real fast depending on what they want and how many rooms :biggrin

the hopper 3 from solid signal is $270.00 each
the joey 4's were $135.00 each
last i looked
hopefully you have a fat wallet :biggrin
i don't see the need for two hopper 3's though
they will know if you bought your own boxes or not. they will ask you where you bought them and how much you paid for them... ;)
This is where things might get interesting.. we did question them about who owns the LNB and the hub or whatever in the hell that thingy is they told me they owned them. then i stated to the csr that we owned the boxes. She told us that we owned the LNB and the hub and that we owned the entire system... you always own the dish excluding the LNB and the hubs and or nodes if you lease it. there not gonna want the reflector back or the mounting pole it's more than likely been weathered and abused from the weather they used to use it as a marketing tool back in the day to try and gain new subs prob not so much anymore.. Our installer also told us to tell em you have no access to the LNB to safely get it down if they decide to get all crazy and charge for it. and they would waive the charge if one can't safely remove the LNB..

you can own 2 hopper 3's without issues the 3r'd hopper 3 dish will have to give you special permission to have it on your acct!!! if you have the protection plan dish will add rooms with no upfront cost. i'll exclude the lease fee for the hopper and or joey.. i would get clarification on how that works i know there will be a lease fee for something somewhere

you can't own directv boxes what so ever there leased only!!! Not playing fan boy to any company. but dtv customer service sucks!!!! dish is far better!!! The genie systems are slower than sh*t the HDD was always playing catchup on ours no matter what genie system we had!!! The hopper 3 smokes the genie systems out of the water!!! The genie 2 is a client only system so no adding a second genie or even a standard HD box for tailgating camping ect... If you want more than one genie you will have to signup for two accts or turn one acct off and turn the other one one when using a particular genie or the standard HD box... there not giving the hr-54 out no longer what ever stock they have left on those is reserved for people that already have em.. the hr-54 is a 5 tuner box the hs-17 is a 7 tuner box and client only.. atleast with the hr-54 one could add other boxes into the mix!!!

Leasing fees are the same as line access fees for people who own their equipment
i believe an owned joey is $5.00 and not the $ 7.00 for the mirror fee :what. That's what we were told... owning you own boxes just to save 2 bucks per room is just not worth it...
