If NPS and Dish Network had there way the end would have happened 12/31. SRL & Skyvision stepped up to the plate to keep things going. A negative attitude would have thrown in the towel, buy we keep hanging on... Why? Because someone keeps trying. That's all one can do. You never know what can happen down the road. Negative predictions, naysayers and the like don't help the situation. Comcast is greedy, this greed may work to our advantage, it has so far :)

Hate to bust everyone's bubble but thats not going to happen. This is all about money people and the sub scrip base for 4D has dropped to a level where its not making money. Plus Comcast and Motorola do not want the hassle of consumer equipment and the hassle of dealing with general public for digicipher. This has been in the works for a long time, Comcast and Motorolla want the general public dealing with the pizza dish people or your local cable company. The other factor is Disney and the major content providers increasing/wanting more fee's for broadcasting their content. Most are demanding concessions "must carry"-(all of their channels) and they are winning these battles. Ive been in the Satellite business a long time and been through all the advancements, the worst thing that happened for consumers is when Comcast basically gained control. The FCC has turned into a bunch of wimps and is not looking out for the American people's intrests but looking out for big business profit.

You don't make any sense. Comcast/HITS would not be dealing with the public, SRL would be.

Confused Newbie

I really appreciate TVROPRO and The TechGuru responses but as someone who is new to this site and rarely ever have been on a forum discussion site I am still confused. When I called Programming Center they indicated they are done with my subcriptions in Dec. They said nothing about some type of ongoing service being available. I have never had any channels on W5 and in fact my receiver still looks to the wrong location I think. TVROPRO if I understood your recent response what the representative told me was incorrect and programming will continue through Programming Center? Or there is still going to be some programming on W5 that you purchase throught Programming Center? Now TheTechGuru seems to be saying something different but I am not sure. I have continued my subs with both NPS and Programming Center along with buying a Pansat 2500A because I have really enjoyed my big dish. I also have DirecTV and will be bummed when the Big Guy is no longer useful. My wife and I are the typical dumb folks because we watch a lot of TV shows. Having the ability to access the Denver channels on 4DTV and now a few of the east coast time network channels on the Pansat has been great. I also like to have multiple football games on various channels by using all receivers including the decorder for local Reno channels. Big D NV

As of next year your 4DTV will be able to subscribe still to all the W5 HITS channels SRL offers. NPS is done.

im actually liking the line up skyvison has on there basic over srl, i hope it stays that way too when next year gets here. only thing is they didnt offer syfy channel in the basic line up,i sent the email asking if there be any ala cart stuff next year on w5

BUT, you will not be able to use the 4dtv unit to move your dish once you do the 7 step master reset SRL will have you do. Basically, if I understand this correctly, The reset will make your dsr922 a dsr410 only for use on W5. Meaning no Porn/PPV or Free tv on other sats. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let's clear this up. You will be able to move your dish for DVB it will have the 21 stock satellite tiles that are in the 4DTV from the factory. It will do channels 1-24 only on those birds, no generics no digital channels but W5 mapped in. That is the worse case scenario. The word is not in yet if Comcast will support any of the current 4D maps so don't give up hope. The request has been given to Comcast from what I understand we just haven't got the official word yet of support or not.

To add, if that worse case scenario stays as is you can also point at ANIK F1R and gain a few more satellite tiles for DVB use.

So is this incorrect? http://www.satelliteguys.us/4dtv-di...nding-their-c-band-signals-5.html#post2393283

What I posted above is the status as is. I don't know how some think the dish mover won't work. The 4DTV comes with 21 satellite tiles out of the box Channels 1-24. When you do a MR it will show those, when SRL hits you for the Comcast EMM it will add AI, W5 whatever they call it and map those channels in. At this point we don't know about the generics, PBS on T4 etc, will they be added? The request has been made the decision is Comcasts choice.

Even though Lonewolf got a copy of the 4Play source code and sent a few copies to some including me there are no answers yet with that. I forwarded a copy to a friend who sent it to someone who could probably do something great with 4Play if he gets time.

Even if you do a MR and add Comcast HITS there will be the 21 tiles to choose from to save for DVB. You wont be able to play any DC-2 except W5 though. Hopefully more questions will be answered as time goes on. If you want your 4D as is, don't sub to the new W5 unless things change or pick up a second 4D or 410.

That is where we are at as of today 11/27/2010.

From what others have said it's sounding like more of a actual firmware change that will make there be no tiles but AI after a master reset.

If that is true that is a crock, or is it just a rumor. If true I'm not biting. We probably need to talk to Mike Kohl this coming Wed on sat talk. From what Mike has said to me in the past this AI only thing was never mentioned. In fact the opposite was.

Let stay cool and not let a rumor spread since NPS will use that to their advantage. Let see if Mike Kohl chimes in here or we can ask him this on sat talk this week.

BTW does anyone who has a subscription and getting updates see a target version in there 922 beyond EC?

I think you don't even need to do a MR to get the Comcast SAC to work. If they add your receiver number to that database and it gets hit with a AI type map it should work. The problem now is there are two EMM numbers after 1/4 there will only be one.

Still all 0's here.

I also agree that no master reset should be required just to watch W5. But I think the firmware change is needed for the guide to work on W5.

So after a master reset

So after a master without any firmware changes. You will have satellites and channels. But nothing extra. Like no manual way to add new satellites, frequencies or anything. That is were the map comes in. Among other things. Channe list/Guide, clock, and adding new satellites to the system. If I do a master reset right now and don't get a map. Can I just goto the different satellites and try the channels to see if I get anything? I couldn't find a real answer. From what I could tell is NO. Unlike analog and its 24 channels.

Thanks,

Josh

A MR will give you 21 tiles ch 1-24 analog thats it. Motorola provided the other tiles and digital maps from G1-3 when you did a download. Since that will be gone soon we don't have anyplace to get the digital programming channels except for the new X4 and the shaw maps on F1R. Shaw will add a few satellites over stock. As far as any future with generics all I can say is the right people are trying to get something to happen. If not from Motorola from using 4 play if we can get it to work. We will have to wait and see what happens. You have two choices as of 1/4, stay FTA and leave your current maps intact or do the X4 thing and loose most functionality of the hobbyist side. This may change by 1/4 but as of 12/2 this is the only answer. so far.

Ah okay

So they are analog channels. Drat I was going for 24 generic digital channels.

Thanks for cleaning that up.

Josh

Try kindly asking Shaw to broadcast generics. :-D
