The weather "TV Apps" has the weather channel logo in it as well. Would that go away as well, or would they just change the logo?

weather channel is a joke. the only time they are ever useful is when there is a big weather event going on and they are forced to take their reality show junk off the air.

I imagine they get the data from weather channel, the app itself is designed in house. Likely use a different data provider and change the logo if it is part of the carriage contract.
Very well could be left alone too, if the data is not used as part of the carriage agreement, it could just be a freebie type thing for showing the logo on separate agreement.

"For DirecTV to take us off their lineup would be deeply irresponsible to its customers who not only count on the Weather Channel on a day-to-day basis, but depend on us before, during and after severe weather events," David Kenny, the chief executive of Weather Channel parent Weather Co. said in a statement.

The Weather Channel said that starting Saturday it would ask its DirecTV viewers to call their congressmen and senators and "ask them to help keep this critical public safety resource in the DirecTV lineup." The network added that "given the increasing frequency and severity of weather-related emergencies across the country, access to timely and accurate weather information is imperative for public safety and, therefore, an issue meriting congressional attention."

My god they make it sound like people dont have the internet or other options for local weather issues.

Or an actual weather channel just one slot down in the program guide.

They should drop it, just like they did G4. When a channel loses its identity and significant viewership stop spending the money on programming, bring something else on instead (which DirecTV already did with Weather Nation to fill that gap).

The article stated that the Weather channel charges on average 13 cents a month per sub. Go ahead Directv and drop it and save us from wasting $31.2 million a year on this stupid channel.

I would agree with the Weather Channel if they actually showed the weather.

You should read the comments on deadline.com on this story. It is all these people saying how they can't survive without it. One person even commented they watch it 75% of the time. I guess this alternate universe values it much more than we do here. I live in TX. and if I depended on this piece of junk,I guess I would have to stare out my window and say "Oh that's a pretty tornado."

For those underestimating the importance of TWC, here's this evening's 'life-or-death' schedule:

3pm Highway Thru Hell Over the Edge
4pm Highway Thru Hell A Man of My Word
5pm Heavy Metal Monsters Flood Buster
5:30pm Heavy Metal Monsters Steel vs. Snow
6pm Heavy Metal Monsters Chopper Loggers
6:30pm Heavy Metal Monsters Chopper Loggers
7pm Heavy Metal Monsters Hercules
7:30pm Heavy Metal Monsters

Now how would you be able to live with yourself is such IMPORTANT programming would no longer be served to you?
