The proposed bill that would allow you to get next door TV market and the proposed bill called H.R. 2821.

Anyhow this will be the first time for Albuquerque city and elsewhere in the state of New Mexico TV Viewers, will get next door TV markets like, Denver, Colorado Spring and El Paso, TX and few other TV markets.

So please contact your congress critters to support the proposed bill H.R. 2821.:up

Yes, on as a TV viewer's right to see what's is going on in other city's local news and weather since it's our next door TV market neighborhoods!!

So that why I thinks it's very importaint to get this bill passed IMHO!:up

Lets put it this way, if this or any bill is anywhere deemed a competition or could hurt a cable company in any way, it wont pass. The special interest and lobbyists for the Cable company are some of the best and have Washington in their grip. I would love to see it pass, I just dont see it happening.

It's not just for DBS, only this bill also will help the cable too to get the next door TV markets!

That's means it's for everybody Directv, Dish, Comcast and many other outhere in the TV biz,.

But cable companies already get next market channels. My area gets New York, Boston and Massachusetts ones. My in laws in Western Mass get Albany, Springfield MA, Hartford CT and Boston. And they've been doing it for years. I didnt read all the details but what changes for cable companies? And are they behind this if it allows Sats to do the same thing?

This bill means State wide, not by countys "SV" as was in the past.

The old law allows people living near the DMA border areas can get next door TV markets.

For example that I live in Portales, New Mexico I can get Lubbock and Albuquerque and the meantime in I live in Albuquerque city metro areas I am not allowed to get any next door TV market.

When the new bill passed, it will allow Albuquerque and the rest of this state New Mexico TV viewers, for the firstime to get next door TV markets.

It probably is more significant for large states. There is so much overlap in the smaller Northeast that it wouldn't matter too much. But I do agree Shiva needs to go. That law sucks.

Many cable companies indeed are allowed and do have what is sometimes called "significantly" viewed channels outside the DMA. So first, this bill affects Satellite more than cable. Second, the bill does not mandate that they carry these stations, only that they can. So it does not mean your local cable company or even Dish or Direct would do it. (Not sure Dish can being under the court order, perhaps AllAmerican Satellite can though) But it's a start if the bill acutally passes. Just be aware this is not the first time a bill very similar to this has been drafted, only to die.

This would be interesting for me in perticular...
I am 500 ft from the Michigan line and Detroit market. IF this passed, I would be able to get those Detroit locals and at the same time, now be in the Detroit DMA so I would finally get my RSN in HD, curently I pay for it but only am allowed SD.

Also, how many SV or neighboring cities would you be alowed ?
Columbus, Cleveland and Chicago are technically in my spot beam, would you potentially get them all ? Would you have to designate one or the other ?
Can I get Detroit for 3/4 of the year and Columbus during the football season ?

How much would this type of thing cost ?
Do you have to pay for your own locals before you can get the SV channels ?
Is this a state to state issue or a national issue ?

We might just call it regional packeges, and I think it might cost anywhere from $5.00 to $15.00 a month depending on how many TV markets they can get on DBS or cable.

Anyhow, I just found one other TV market that might just have to be added to the list for Albuquerque DMA....

It's KVIH-TV from Clovis, New Mexico which is in Amarillo, TX this station is relaying in from that city KVII-TV in Amarillo.

I don't necessarily need to have the channels from the other markets, except for those that would fill in the missing networks in my DMA.

This would be severely damaging to DIRECTV as their spotbeams would be rendered useless in areas where the geographic spread is great. NAB will also oppose this as it would open the door back up to people watching TV from other markets and that's not gonna happen.

I think this has ALWAYS been just neighboring markets, possibly determined by D*.
You would not be able to get just ANY market.
Being in Ohio, I would not be able to ask for a Texas market, I am sure this would be specified by D* what would be available.
The NAB should have NOTHING to worry about, as long as they already have the subs locals available.

I personly don't like NAB, that restrict our free flow of informations, and I think spot beam can get better IMHO.

Any spot beams is spilling over like here in Albuquerque TV market, if the signal strenth is strong enough or sometime 2 or 3 TV markets can share the spotbeam with it, and besides the reality nowdays so they can be done don't to need to changes anything with the spotbeams if when the the new bill passed.

And I think most of TV viewers are getting tired of big boy NAB saying what we can or can't watch next door TV market by watching local news from other citys and back up programings in case our local Albuquerque station don't carry the network shows for some reasons.

Want to get DVR? No thanks don't need one more box just use good old DBS or cable box recevier.

TV broadcasters will have to live in brave new world, just like AM radio did survive the TV and FM was added at that time.
