This college football season is boring

I mean, seriously.

I go into the TV thread every week and post what I think are 'Must-See' games, six this week alone, but let's be honest here...there are two 'Must-See' games left, the SEC championship game and the national championship game. All of the other games are irrelevant in the national title picture.

And both games are at neutral stadiums, so big on-campus games are done for this year.

You can blame the lack of a playoff system if you want, but it seemed in recent years - under this same system - there was at least one game each weekend that affected the national championship game, a game where the outcome was actually in doubt. Often more than one game. It was very exciting...but not this year.

The Big 12 is way down except for Texas, and you can draw a huge line between Florida and Alabama, and the rest of the SEC.

Obviously everyone will respond with 'on any given Saturday', and they're right...in other years. Doesn't look like they're right this year. Nobody will be happier than me if I'm wrong and there is a big upset somewhere along the way, but I have a bad feeling I'm not.

And of course you have all of your Ohio State-Michigan, Alabama-Auburn, USC-UCLA, etc., bragging rights games, but at this point that's all they are...for bragging rights. Outside of the local areas, those games are pretty meaningless this year.

Unfortunately, college football just does not have the same mojo it's had recently.

Sandra you're exactly right. This season has been boring. Some of it has been bad luck, as some of the big games this year (Texas-OU, Florida-LSU) have been poorly played and were dull. But the really depressing thing is that there is nothing to look forward to since the bowl season is always anti-climatic. The bowl defenders always say if there were a playoff it would destroy the sanctity of the regular season. Well this regular season has been a joke. That would be OK if we at least had a playoff to look forward to, but we don't. On the bright side the college basketball is under way, which should provide plenty of legitimate excitement, and if it doesn't the NCAA Tournament will.

There just aren't any elite teams. Florida returned a remarkable number of starters from a team defending a MNC, but they look very beatable. Alabama isn't a very exciting team to watch. Texas is actually 10th in the Big 12 (conference play) in offensive yards per game.

I remember watching Georgia at Oklahoma State very early in the season. It might have been the first week. I thought that Georgia would win because of their success under Mark Richt winning road games against big opponents. OSU beat them soundly. I jumped on the OSU bandwagon, but then they lost to Houston. Then Houston loses to lowly UTEP. It's been that kind of a season. Not to mention Northwestern beating undefeated Iowa or Oregon losing to Stanford or USC losing to Washington or Oklahoma sitting at 5-4.

Lots of mediocre teams this year.

I read that Texas may have the softest schedule of any team to ever reach the NC game, which is crazy because last year the Big XII had 3 top 10 teams and there were huge games every week.

I honestly think the fix is in. You cannot be THAT bad...considering how bad the SEC officials have been this year.
Funny how this happens right after the SEC inks a huge new TV deal. The conference has a huge interest in making the SEC CG a defacto national semifinal and getting a team in the NC every year, and they don't need the likes of Arkansas screwing that up.

This is also a league where nearly everyone has been on probation and the unofficial motto is "if you're not cheating you're not trying." Makes sense to extend that to the officiating. :D

Well in defense of the SEC there last 3 national titles in 2 of them the team who won had at least 1 loss and to a inferior team. The third title was won by a 2 loss SEC team... So I highly doubt they are so worried about an SEC team getting 1 loss and not making the title. Even if FLA and Alabama lose this Saturday the winner in GA will goto the national title game.

On the topic: Yes this season has been boring. I mean The games for my team have been gut wrenching, but I just have not been that impressed. I mean, I am used to FLA just being able to explode at any point and make the big plays.. Now they seem to be trying t obe more laid back. Playing "I-Formation" type football but in the spread stance. Its kinda boring to watch. I know why they do it, they have 0 confidence in their receiveing core so they have little threat in the air.

But all and all though its good to have football back... Although the "elites" are all down this year, From OK, OSU, USC, etc..

Watching the SEC officiating crews "fix" all those Florida and Alabama games has been interesting.

I guessed you missed the BS touchdown given to Cinncinati by the Big East review officials tonight? But, I guess that is ok, since it is not the evil, satanic, murderous, robbing SEC conference?

You blow a team out and you're running up the score, you don't and you're just not that good, huh? Whatever!

You've got to be KIDDING .....

The ball CLEARLY crossed the plain of the goal line.
remember it only has to touch the white, not the back side.
You must have been listening to the announcers, they all thought it was not a TD, and a fumble to boot.
IF you watch the play, it was clearly a TD, also remember, if it makes the white line, anything that happens after , doesn't happen, the play is over.

and you have to remember that the announcers are all guys (and gals) that cannot get a job anywhere else. Washed up has-beens and never-was coaches and jocks making noise for the sake of making noise. They all seem to make a case for "who are you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?"

Your making my point, I could care less about the announcers, but the fact that it was a TD and not called originally surprised me.

The ones that ND hires on their own behalf (meaning, nice try on suggesting that we bring in our own homer refs)? Yes.

And BTW - it *was* a fumble. Romeus hit Clausen's arm forward as he was pulling his arm back, forcing the ball loose.

I thought those were homer refs that ND brought in, that were "Fat Chuckie" approved. :)

And, yes, that was a fumble, shovel pass my a$$. The arm must be in a "forward motion" for a pass to be taking place, otherwise, its a fumble, no matter the direction.
