Tips and Advice for Setting up Hughesnet Raven and GTMedia V7

Hi All

I am just trying to get started in this with a Hughesnet Raven & . 98 Meter Dishes, GTMedia V7 FTA Receiver, Super Buddy 29, and a universal linear Ku LNB. I wanted to aim for Galaxy 19-97°West first. I just installed my pole and made sure that it was plumb. Thanks to this site I know you can use the Hughesnet Raven's LNB to receive FTA signals. I connected my Super Buddy to the dish moved it a bit and got a lock. Hooray. I can't wait for morning to test the set up. My signal was pretty low so I know that I would probably have to setup the. 98-meter dish. Any suggestions, tips, or advice would be appreciated. TIA.

Congrats! Since you got a signal lock were you able to blind scan any channels yet?

I had decided to connect the meter and try to get a signal while the dish was on the ground and it worked. I put my dish on the pole and it seems like a bearing mango tree I have is in the way. I plan on putting in another pole.

Hopefully you can map out another spot where it can receive signal. If you have not done so already, try www.dishpointer.com - just enter the exact latitude and longitude where you want to put the dish then select the satellite you want to 'see' and a green line will appear. Zoom in, look along the green line and take note of any possible obstructions your dish might have at that location and select another location for it if there are any that appear to be a problem.

My suggestions would be. Align the lnbf with the dish face as in the picture. Then turn whole dish assy. to get your skew angle.
Also it looks like you have extended the lnbf out in its bracket as far as it will go. Prehaps when modifying the mount you can make provision to extend the mount further out to allow wiggle room for lnbf focus adjustment.
It could be me but it also looks like the lnbf needs to be raised to shoot more towards the center or slightly above dish center.
It is a little small for FTA so you'll need to do everything you can to optimize the signal.

I got a signal of 50% on my Super Buddy on Eutelsat 117 West A. But it's not showing a signal inside on the receiver, and I had to the satellite in the receiver list but I don't know what is the LNB frequency. The cable is good, and I have a signal intensity of 90% but no signal quality. I am using the original Hughesnet LNB. TIA

Since you're using a universal LNB, you must set your receiver local oscillator (LO) for 9750/10600. When you set that, then the 22K setting should show 'Auto' for automatic.

Only the Signal Quality is important. Since SQ is showing as 0%, this means you are not receiving any signal.

Using the original HN lnb? Do you mean the original TRIA? The 1 watt transmitter/receiver "bird cooker"?
If so, that's for ka band. And from the charts if so. The closest ka sat to 117 is actually Anik F2 at 111.1W

HughesNet LNB?

I just picked up a free HughesNet dish (~33" x 28" or so) and the LNB says "FSS 19.7 - 22.2 ghz" Is that thing of any use for me? Regardless of whether that lnb is worth anything for this, I plan on setting this up as a fixed dish. Not sure which bird yet.
