TiVo co-founders Michael Ramsay and Jim Barton are about to release a new TV companion device that aims to combine video discovery and curation with smart TV functionality. Dave Zatz recently spotted an FCC filing for the QPlay-branded device a few days ago, which suggests that the release is imminent.

How many boxes will one have to have? It is getting slightly ridiculous. Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, DVR, etc. Each can get a lot of the content but not quite all of it and you have to resort to having a collection of boxes.

Much like the software side of it. Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, etc all have exclusives and you need to choose or subscribe to multiples.
