This was just added to the KOTV website from Griffin Communications. It will apply to KOTV and KQCW in Tulsa and KWTV and KSBI in OKC.

Attention DISH subscribers: KOTV News On 6's parent company, Griffin Communications, has been negotiating with DISH on a new carriage agreement.

If negotiations are not completed before January 15 at 6 p.m., you will not be able to view News On 6 on DISH Network.

This means you will not be able to see local news and weather from News On 6, CBS programming such as NCIS, Big Bang Theory, the Young and the Restless or the NFL on CBS.

We hope to reach an agreement but feel it is important to alert you in advance.

I know its been said before, but local channel take downs should affect so few people, since the majority should just get an OTA. I know there are folks that cannot get OTA, but if the majority of customers that could, did, can you imagine how much money would be saved on negotiations?

Been in Lex KY the last week in a Direct home. Their ABC affiliate has been dark since Yesterday AM. Not just a Dish problem.

yep, drop'em got an antenna with tuners in the 722 and 211, 3 Pal DVR's and an HD Homerun on the computer. Plenty of options for viewing and recording OTA in Tulsa.

I'm In Stillwater and if this is what new9 wants they get! I have an OTA and im not afraid to use it. im sick of these every 2 year contract negotiations tbh. Next year is KOCO(ABC) and KFOR(NBC) and KOKH(FOX). the Retrans thing is getting out of hand.

It's the NBC who's gone dark in Lex. Cordillera Communications contract with Direct expired at midnight 1/1/15.

I don't have a hopper and Dish has no issues in my market, so I can't answer you.

Not on the dark network. You have to deselect that network. No guide data.

There may have been more posts from when you read, but from what I gather, OTA reception is NOT being blocked by Direct in that case. What Direct has apparently done is add another 18-1 channel (channel 18 is the Cordillera owned NBC station in Lexington that's been pulled for the dispute), that just has a D* logo. However, there's a 2nd 18-1 for D* subscribers that get OTA. When someone puts in 18-1, they get the logo. They apparently have to go through some hoops to actually see the OTA signal. Assuming that's true, that's pretty underhanded on D*'s part.

At least it's Channel 6 and not 2. Ch6 has a repeater down here, just 5 miles out of town. Ch2 is impossible to get down here OTA, 77 miles from the tower. Three antennas and two amps won't do it. Funny thing is that Ch6 actually wouldn't need a repeater. The output is strong enough. Ch2 output is simply pathetic. FCC is a bunch of retards...

Griffin has repeaters for the north and south of Tulsa DMA. Probably the easiest station to get in NE Oklahoma

Dish cannot import a station because of a takedown.

Now there are some rare cases where Dish can due to a market being a "short market" and not have all the networks. Lets use an example. Mankato, MN is 75 miles southwest of Minneapolis. They have just CBS & FOX. ABC & NBC are imported from Mpls. Now lets hypothetically (ahh hell it HAS happened) that Dish and Gannett have a dispute and the NBC is taken away. Dish in that instance CAN import a different NBC into Mankato (but not Minneapolis)

An interesting source (I found it interesting)...

According to http://www.americantelevisionallian...-Broadcaster-Retrans-Blackouts-2010-2014.docx, since 2010 there's been 83 disputes resulting in blackouts. Dish has been involved in 36 of them (43%). Direct had 15 disputes (18%), and Time Warner 7 (8%).

I think it is safe to say Dish does have more blackouts than other MVPDs (almost more than others combined).

ETA: My numbers are based simply on counting what's on the list. I could have miscounted at some point, but I don't think the numbers are going to change more than +/-1.
