This probably does not qualify as FTA - but I wasn't sure where to put it...

I'm interested in getting Polish TV and so far - I have found one company that resells subscriptions ( http://www.globecastwtv.com/ch_tvp_package.htm ). However - they require me to purchase a receiver from them. I already have a receiver (need to add a card reader ) and I don’t want to deal with having to sell off whatever I get from them...

But TVPolonia is available on more than one satellite and is encoded with more than encryption scheme. So I'm guessing it's possible to purchase a subscription from more than one company.

GlobeCast World TV only seems to be reselling what’s broadcast on Intelsat Americas 5 ( http://www.lyngsat.com/ia5.html encoded with Nagravision); but TV Polonia is also available on SatMex 5 ( http://www.lyngsat.com/sm5.html encoded with Irdeto 1 ). There has got to be a company that sells that.

Does anybody know of any company OTHER than GlobeCast World TV that sells Polish TV subscriptions in the US?

Thanks,
Michael

That feed might only be sold to Cable and Satellite companies.

Bell ExpressVu from Canada has it in a Polish package for C$25 a month. I don't know if you can see their signal though.

Your legacy FTA receiver is useless as far as subscription is concerned because it has no cardslot. You have no choice but to get globecast's receiver. However, getting the whole Globecast package is expensive ($170 for the receiver, card and dish, $130 if you want to skip the dish, plus shipping).

If you want Globecast, I suggest you get a used receiver. On Ebay, they sell the receivers + dish at about $100. If you can find someone local, you can even get a better deal. I just got a used one at about half of what globecast asks for.

If TV Polonia is the only channel you want, then it's globecast. However, if it's Polish TV, then it's a different story. You can get Polsat, ITVN and TVN24 from Dish Network's Polish package. TV Polonia used to be on Dish Network but there was a recent fall out that led to TVP leaving Dish.

Funny you’d call it “legacy” - when I was buying it a few months back it was the latest and greatest ;-) I actually read on this forum that a card reader for the Coolsat 4000 Pro is “forthcoming.” I’d much rather use that. Or better yet - a card slot for my PCI card. But when I spoke with Globecast people - they told me they won’t sell me any service unless I buy a receiver from them. But it doesn’t actually matter since the receiver is essentially “free” (pls see further down).

I’m afraid that is the same conclusion I’m coming to...

As it turns out - given the “deal” they have right now on the Polish package - I’m better off getting a receiver from them (and they also sound like they won’t sell me any service unless I do!) because I get $114 worth of free programming with purchase of receiver. Incidentally - cost of receiver without an antenna (I already have 2 antennas) is $130. Whereas on eBay I’d have to pay for the receiver (looks like at least $60) and I would not get the “deal” on free programming.

I think I will start off with the Polish package from Globecast and perhaps add other Polish channels from Dish in the future. Thanks for the info!
