UNLV researchers find lead in Mexican Hot Sauces

In what the university describes as a first-of-its-kind study, researchers examined 25 bottles of hot sauce imported from Mexico and South America and purchased from local ethnic markets, grocery stores, and a swap meet.

The lead is probably from the glass they bottle the sauce in...

But no matter, it just give the hot sauce a little more kick!

The hot sauce brands with lead concentrations exceeding the U.S. Food and Drug Administration candy standard were Salsa Picante de Chile Habanero, El Pato Salsa Picante, Salsa Habanera and Bufalo Salsa Clasica.

Aw man, El Pato Salsa I've used along with red enchilada sauce to give it a bite ...

I didn't see el yucateco chile habanero on the list thankfully. That is what I use daily, it is a staple for me.

In all the restaurants in these parts, including Mexican, Cholula is on every table. It seems to be the favorite. With all respect to Tabasco, which is made with tabasco peppers, I prefer Cholula which is made with Pequin and Arbol peppers, a flavor profile more to my liking....
