So when I call Directv via the AAA line I get diifferent offers but more recently I was told that "later you can upgrade a receiver to and HD DVR once you prove yourself as a good customer", what constitutes a "good customer"? The rep was very vague as to what it ment and for how long to to determine one is a "good customer" also what is this heart based rating and how does on get a lot of hearts?

Since you can usually get one HD DVR free as a new customer, it would be hard to beat that. Upgrade offers seem to be rarer than they were in the past and happen irregularly. You probably won't get any good offers until you have been a customer for at least six months.

I don't know if they still use the "hearts", but basically it meant having a spotless payment record and spending a lot on Directv (NFL Sunday Ticket, premium channels, etc.)

You probably wouldn't get another hardware discount until the 2 year contract is up, regardless of hearts or rating.
